The objectives of the Deepening Democracy and Accountable Governance (DDAG) programme are threefold: a) to deepen democracy through increased citizen participation in governance; b) to support elections, the media sector, and evidence-based governance and decision-making; and c) to promote meaningful female participation in all levels of government, and create space for women in politics.
The National Women’s Council, Pro-Femme Twese Hamwe, the Gender Monitoring Office, and UNDP jointly organized and hosted a workshop for aspiring women candidates preparing for the September 2018 Parliamentary elections.
Together with Rwanda Environmental Management Authority and the UNDP-GEF Global ABS Project, around 80 participants representing a wide array of ABS practitioners and experts, representing state actors, researchers and academia, private sector, local communities, civil society, development partners and the media will gather for the Pan African ABS Workshop in Kigali, Rwanda from 28-30 August 2018.
On Tuesday July 24th, the Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) concluded a 5-day Hackathon on the application of IoT for Climate Early Warning. The Hackathon brought together different developers and climate data scientists across the region to test technology and applications to address Disaster Preparedness and Early Warning Systems through ‘real time’ environmental data collection, analysis and dissemination.
The online knowledge-management platform also will promote ongoing discussions among practitioners in search of time-sensitive solutions
The 2017 summit which attracted close to a thousand students was designed as a teleconference connecting three Universities. These include the University of Kigali as the main site, University of Rwanda (Huye Campus) and Kigali Independent University (Gisenyi Campus) as remote sites.
International Week of the Deaf is celebrated worldwide to raise awareness at the individual, community and governmental levels about the situation of the Deaf population. This year’s theme was“Full Inclusion with Sign Language.”
