Pastoral and rural communities near Yombays Village will now have greater access to safe water, and can care for their livestock, thanks to a new earth dam that will fill with the next rains.
The fairs were held in Galmadug, Hirshabelle, South West State, Jubaland and Puntland, and gave young people the opportunity to showcase their trades and products, with businesses and government officials providing information on internships, job placement, and career guidance in some states.
Twenty-five law students following a scholarship programme sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with funding from the European Union, received Bachelor of Law degrees from Puntland State University.
Speakers at the campaign launch highlighted the high deforestation rate, outlined energy alternatives to charcoal and firewood, and updated participants on government policies and laws which have been put in place to reduce deforestation.
Leaders, community members and police from North and South Gaalkayo have come together a week-long discussion to establish a community forum and joint police community action plans
The stoves will be distributed to rural communities and sold in the marketplace
The joint programme, which is led by the Federal Government of Somalia in partnership with the UN, works to improve the lives of Somali people and promote peace through accountable and effective local government.
