Give to Densho

Densho preserves the history of Japanese American WWII incarceration with more than 900 oral history interviews, 50,000 digital photographs and historic documents, an extensive encyclopedia, and resources for teachers. We are able to make this material free to everyone thanks, in part, to your generous donations. If you value the work we do here at Densho, please consider making a tax-deductible financial contribution. In order to make this process as convenient as possible, we offer several options for donating.

Summer 2018 Premiums

In case the warm, fuzzy feeling you get from supporting isn’t enough, we’re happy to offer some exclusive gifts as a sign of our gratitude. Available until August 31, 2018.

All donors will receive a set of five custom Aiko Herzig-Yoshinaga stamps featuring an original illustration by Kiku Hughes. Incarcerated at Manzanar as a teenager, Aiko (b. 1924) was a key figure in the redress movement. She uncovered crucial evidence of government misconduct during WWII, paving the way for the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 that formally recognized the injustice of Japanese American incarceration.

Donate $125 or more and select one premium gift; donate $200 or more and we’ll send you both! (Please indicate your selection in the PayPal memo field.)

Premium gift #1: Set of 4 Custom Magnets Honoring Great Figures from Japanese American History

Make Japanese American history part of your everyday life with these magnets, designed and illustrated exclusively for Densho by our resident artist Kiku Hughes. Magnets feature activist Yuri Kochiyama; celebrated sculptress Ruth Asawa; Takuji Yamashita, an Issei who twice challenged discriminatory anti-Asian laws in the courts; and Kiyoshi Kuromiya, a Sansei activist who participated in some of the country’s earliest gay rights demonstrations.

Premium Gift #2: Fred Korematsu Speaks Up: Fighting for Justice” by Laura Atkins and Stan Yogi (112 pages / full-color illustrations and photos throughout / Grade 3-8 Reading Level)

According to Densho Content Director Brian Niiya, this book “has it all: a compelling storyline with an appealing hero, thorough and accurate background information, and an inviting design that uses many visuals even those familiar with the story will not have seen. Easily one of the best nonfiction children’s books on any aspect of Asian American history.

Thank you! Your contribution will help us preserve and share the story of Japanese American incarceration.
