The work and DC government did to replace DC's Oracle tire fire should get more attention. The more I read about it the more I see it as the model states could take to unwind their terrible Medicaid systems.

"We will do Scrum" <- this is allopoeitic: design imposed from outside. but agile is autopoeisis: constraints from outside, design from inside.

The moment we didn’t see a picture of his face and then got word that he was taken in alive, we knew the mass shooter in Annapolis at the Capital Gazette was white. American police are adept at taking armed white mass murderers in alive. Unarmed Black men altogether different.

Tech companies and the people who work for them need to be less afraid of "being political." We need to have overcome that fear ages ago, but clearly we haven't. If you haven't gotten over it, now is the fucking time. No more complacency.

And the depraved logic by some in our industry is that as scary as this story is, it's not as scary as newspapers using the wrong words to describe it. Talk about not knowing what scary is. What a privilege it is treat this as a thought exercise like a cute trolly problem.

That Nazario and Filomena were fleeing Guatemala and we were awful to them is especially shameful, as we (the US) destroyed that country’s stability in 1954 because we didn’t like their election results
