Mid-Atlantic Anarchist Bookfair This Weekend in Baltimore!
Events around the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Anarchist Bookfair in Baltimore have already kicked off, and tonight is a night of music and spoken word before the actual bookfairing will begin tomorrow. It’ll be an event not to be missed!
Tonight,Thursday June 29th, in cooperation with Sonar (407 E. Saratoga St.), the Bookfair is proud to present an evening of spoken word performance with Jello Biafra(Dead Kennedys, Alternative Tentacles). Tickets are $12 in advance. Doors open at 6PM. Check the Sonar website for more information.
Right after the Jello Biafra performance, celebrate the start of the Bookfair with a night of Radical Hip-Hop, featuring Baltimore's Son of Nun, DJ Malatesta and Drowning Dog of Entartete Kunst(anarchist hip-hop from the bay area, appearing for the first time on the east coast), and DC's Head-Roc, plus DJ's in the lounge all night. The 2006 Mid-Atlantic Radical Bookfair will take place from June 30 - July 2 in Baltimore, Mayland. The Bookfair brings together radical and independent publishers, distributors, bookstores, and authors for a weekend of workshops, panel discussions, and performances engaging with a variety of topics from radical approaches to social services, to anti-war activism, to political art and aesthetics. Co-organized by volunteers from the Red Emma's collective (B'more), Wooden Shoe Books (Philadelphia), and the Alternative Press Center (B'more), and a whole host of others, the 2006 Bookfair promises to be an engaging and exciting celebration of informed resistance in the Mid-Atlantic area!
The 2006 Mid-Atlantic Bookfair will take place at CENTERSTAGE, one of Baltimore's most beloved independent theaters, located just 3 blocks away from the center of the Mount Vernon district, and just a block away from Red Emma's Bookstore Coffeehouse.
