Hazardous Surf Warning for New South Wales

Issued at 3:05 am EST on Thursday 4 October 2018
for the period until midnight EST Friday 5 October 2018.

Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities
such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming in the following areas.

Friday 5 October

Hazardous Surf Warning for:
Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast and Illawarra Coast

Safety Advice
NSW Police Force, Marine Area Command advise that:
- People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near
surf-exposed areas.
- Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek
a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
- Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing
or delaying their voyage.
- Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and
wear a lifejacket.
- Boaters should remember to log on with their local Marine Rescue radio base,
via VHF Radio or the Marine Rescue APP, and consider their safety management
plan.

The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EST Thursday.

Severe Weather Warning
for HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in parts of Hunter and Metropolitan Forecast Districts.

Issued at 3:26 pm Thursday, 4 October 2018.

HEAVY RAINFALL TONIGHT FOR SYDNEY AND THE CENTRAL COAST

Weather Situation: A low pressure system is deepening near to the New South Wales coast tonight in association with an upper cold pool moving across the region. The wind shift associated with the deepening low is likely to push heavier rainfall onto central parts of the coast.

HEAVY RAIN which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is possible over eastern parts of the Sydney Metropolitan, and in the Central Coast region, later tonight and early Friday. This heavy rainfall is likely to start from about 10pm tonight

12 hour overnight totals in excess of 50mm are likely, with the possibility of localised totals in excess of 100mm.

Currently, the heaviest rain is located on radar is occuring over the sea to the east of Sydney. The onshore wind shift associated with the deepening low later tonight is expected to push some of this rainfall onto the coast.

Locations which may be affected include Gosford, Sydney, Parramatta, Wyong, The Entrance and Woy Woy.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.


The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Thursday.
