  • Who was Fred Hallam?

If you were in front of the wireless last weekend you might have heard Paul McIntyre speaking with Tony Colman about a photo he’d found from 1906 of the New Town Harriers.

Following the conversation, Paul was put in contact with Wayne Fletcher, who assists Athletics Tasmania with their archive.

Wayne was able to find another photo from the archive, of a team from 1910 - where one particular face stood out – this time with the name Fred Hallam attached (standing, arms crossed) – who also appeared in the 1906 picture.

To find out more about the life and times of Fred Hallam and the state of Tasmanian athletics in the early 20th century – Paul spoke with Wayne Fletcher.
