Smoke-filled air meant for some tricky practice schedules for the Anacortes High School fall sports teams, but as play kicks off this week, the season is set to be a good one, Anacortes High School Athletic Director Erik Titus said.

During its appearance in the AA American Legion district tournament, the Anacortes Blackhawks baseball team first fell to Mount Vernon 13-2 in five innings and then to Sedro-Woolley 14-1.

Even with playing several games in one day in hot temperatures, the Bash 16U softball team, which features five girls from Anacortes, battled its way to earn a top spot at the state tournament.
