The best dressed stars at the Emmys after-parties

Winners are grinners. They are also sinners, as evidenced by some of the outfits at the various parties held after the Emmys in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, Australian time.

While many stars choose "safe" outfits for the red carpet, from which traditional best-dressed lists are formed, the real fashion moments happen after a quick change between best drama and champagne o'clock.

So here, in no particular order, are some of our post-show favourites.

Jessica Biel

She was a delight in white Ralph & Russo at the ceremony but we are developing a citrus crush on this yellow gown by the same designers, who originally hail from Australia.

Emily Ratajkowski

Although we didn't spot EmRata on the Emmys red carpet, the model brought plenty of man-style suiting sexiness to one of the after-parties in this dress by Anaïs Jourden. On another Instagram photo taken before she left home, EmRata posted: "Real friends take flash pics to see how sheer your dress is before you leave the house."

Penelope Cruz

Another vote for the sheer black brigade, the star of the factual-based series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, changed out of her Chanel gown, which reportedly took 300 hours to embroider, into this boogie-friendly number.

Chrissy Teigen

Did you get the memo that it's pronounced "Tie-gen"? Good. Here she is in her party look, a silver mini-dress that oozes body positivity.

Vanessa Hudgens

You can't see all of Hudgens' asymmetric black mini dress here but I used this shot to show the strength of her eyebrow game.

Alyssa Milano

This is actually my favourite after-party dress. But the stand-out part of her outfit are the badges on her clutch, which read: "I still believe Anita Hill", and "I still believe Christine Blasey Ford".

Blasey Ford has alleged that US Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in 1982, while in 1991, Hill accused then Supreme Court nominee (now judge) Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment.

Madelaine Petsch

The actress who plays one of our favourite modern-day TV villains on Riverdale went for simple elegance at the Governor's Ball.

Joey King

Technically this isn't an outfit change but this fan-girl moment between the actress, in plum Zac Posen, and Queer Eye's Tan France just had to be shared.
