Saint Vincent may refer to:
Saint Vincent is a volcanic island in the Caribbean. It is the largest island of the country Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It is located in the Caribbean Sea, between Saint Lucia and Grenada. It is composed of partially submerged volcanic mountains. Its largest volcano and the country's highest peak, La Soufrière, is active, having last erupted in 1979.
The territory was disputed between France and the United Kingdom in the 18th century, before being ceded to the British in 1763 and again in 1783. It gained independence on October 27, 1979. Approximately 100,000 people live on the island. Kingstown (population 25,418) is the chief town. The rest of the population is dispersed along the coastal strip, which includes the other five main towns of Layou, Barrouallie, Chateaubelair, Georgetown, and Calliaqua.
The people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are called Vincentians, or colloquially Vincies. There are also a few white descendants of English and French colonists, as well as a significant number of Indo-Vincentians, descendants of indentured workers with Indian heritage and there is a sizable minority of mixed race (19%).

St Vincent is the biggest of the islands in this group. The best beaches are on the smaller islands, but there are some nice beaches in the main island if you know where to find them. Jean's video report shows you a very unusual church that could be used in Game of Thrones and the bus garages and the way to the beach. A vacation to Bequia and St. Vincent with a side trip to the Tobago Cayes & Mayreau was an unforgettable experience and adventure. We saw family on my dad's side including Aunt Hannah, Shirley, Daniella, Camile, Simone & Wayne while experiencing the beautiful countryside of Richmond Hill in St. Vincent. Equally amazing was a ferry ride to the small island of Mayreau, where my mom was born and grew up. Mayreau is a place of paradise and simplicity with kind and engaging people who welcomed us into their hearts. The locals of all these islands were accommodating and made us feel part of their every day life. A highlight was the "dollar" bus in Bequia. Small vans would go back and forth on the winding road to Port Elizabeth picking up locals, students and tourists. In these small vans they wo...
St. Vincent isn't easy to get to. There are no direct flights from the US. You need to go first to Barbados or Trinidad, then catch a prop plane to St. Vincent. It's about a 40 minute flight. But leaving St. Vincent was delayed 8 hours do to assorted problems, including needing more gas than was available in St. Vincent. But boy, was the diving in St Vincent worth the effort. We were diving in Bonaire which is my favorite spot. It's the shore diving capital of the world. Then we went on to St. Vincent. I wasn't sure what to expect. St. Vincent has wonderful robust reefs, awesome numbers of fish and lots to see and shoot. The boat never went more than 5-6 minutes from the hotel's beach and saw awesome fish, a wreak and a bat cave. We saw grassy areas with lots of macro and walls full of ...

This time returning to the Caribbean, I was on a mission to find out more about my mother's roots and life in the village where she grew up. After spending some time in St. Vincent, we venture to the small and beautiful island of Mayreau where my mom was born and spent two days at Dennis's Hideaway. I spoke with Curtis, Mirabelle, Icelynn, Sigbut and Dennis who helped me with my search. Local villagers like Mama Gatto and Miss Mildred enlightened me with Mayreau's past and the struggles with water, growing food and surviving. They helped me find the missing pieces to the jig saw puzzle of the St. Hillaries'. During the early 1940's most of my mom's family moved to St. Vincent to make a better life. Also, with the help of a book written by a local Mayreau resident, Nancy Saul Demers called...
