This Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy describes how and when we collect, use, share, and update personal information from individuals who wish to be considered for employment at any of Twitter’s offices globally, including individuals who submit personal information to inquire or be informed about Twitter employment opportunities and recruiting events and individuals who submit personal information to apply for employment at Twitter, including at our careers website.

Your use of Twitter’s services, which include websites, SMS, APIs, email notifications, applications, buttons, embeds, ads, and our other covered services is governed by our general Privacy Policy.

Information You Share With Us and How We Use It

 

Contact Information: If you would like to learn more about Twitter recruiting events, you can send us an email at recruiting@twitter.com or Direct Message one of our Twitter recruiting accounts, including @TwitterU and @JoinTheFlock. If you provide us with your contact information, such as your email address, we will use it to respond to your inquiries and send you information about upcoming Twitter recruiting events. You can unsubscribe from receiving recruiting marketing emails by following the instructions contained within our email notifications.

Basic Applicant Information: Beyond typical technical information we collect when you visit our sites such as IP address, we don’t require you to provide additional personal information to view job openings at our careers website. If you do choose to apply for a job at Twitter, so that we can consider you for employment, you must provide us with some personal information, including:

  • Your full name and contact information, including home address, phone number, and email address 
  • Your resume, CV, or profile that includes your employment history, previous and relevant work experience or other experience, and education history (including potentially transcripts)
  • Job openings you wish to be considered for
  • Necessary special accommodations for interviews, if any

You may also provide us with a cover letter, but it is not required.

We use this information to enable you to express interest in and allow you to apply for employment at Twitter; assess and compare your skills, qualifications, and experience against other candidates and consider your candidacy for employment at Twitter; update and sync with information we may have previously collected about you related to employment at Twitter; communicate with you about the recruitment process, your application, recruitment events, and other potential career opportunities at Twitter; inform our internal analysis and reporting on our hiring practices and make improvements to our application and recruitment process; ensure or enhance the security and functionality of Twitter’s electronic recruitment systems; protect against fraud; conduct internal investigations; or comply with legal obligations.

Sensitive Information: In some countries, we offer individuals the opportunity to voluntarily self-identify certain additional personal information. While we will not ask you for certain other kinds of personal information, you may voluntarily choose to provide in the course of your recruitment additional personal information. Such information is voluntary and your decision to provide or withhold any such information will not negatively impact whether or how we will consider you for employment. We will treat any personal information considered sensitive under applicable law in accordance with that applicable law. We will use your sensitive personal information for internal analysis and reporting on our hiring practices and to make improvements to our application and recruitment process.

Screening/Interviewing Information: If we decide that you may be a good fit for employment at Twitter, we will contact you to request additional information as part of the screening and interviewing process, which may include:

  • Your desired salary and other terms relating to computation of compensation and benefits packages, willingness to relocate, and other job preferences
  • Your fitness for a particular position, including your skills, qualifications, and experience
  • Any previous applications you submitted to Twitter or any previous employment history with Twitter

We use this information to assess and compare your skills, qualifications, and experience against other candidates; consider your candidacy for employment at Twitter; to generate interviewer notes and candidate scores; and to update and sync with information we may have previously collected about you related to employment at Twitter.

As part of the screening and interviewing process, we may also ask you details about how you heard about the position you are applying for, but such information is voluntary. We use this data for internal analysis on our recruiting marketing practices.

Verification Information: As part of the recruitment process, we may also request information necessary to verify your information and run background checks, including:

  • Your tax Identification or other government identification number (e.g., a social security number);
  • Your nationality or citizenship;
  • Whether you previously used other names;
  • Whether you previously worked at Twitter and in what capacity 
  • Whether you are legally authorized to work in the country you are applying to work in;
  • Whether you require sponsorship to continue or extend your current work authorization, and what your current immigration status is;
  • Information regarding potential conflicts of interest issues, including whether you or a member of your family have been a Government Official;
  • Your date and place of birth; and
  • Employment and education history.

We will use this information (in addition to your contact information) to verify your information and identity; conduct background checks; confirm your eligibility and right to work at a particular Twitter office; confirm that there are no potential conflicts of interest issues in hiring you; and populate your employee records with your name and email address in the event you are hired by Twitter. In addition, where requested by you, we will use this information to assist you with obtaining an immigrant visa or work permit, if required.

We will use your personal information only in ways that are compatible with the purposes described in this policy.

Additional Information We Receive About You

 

Third Party Sources: We may receive information about you from third parties, such as employment agencies, vendors, and online job and professional networks. Our processing of such information is limited to the purposes described in this policy, including considering you for employment and, if we determine that you may be a good fit for employment at Twitter, reaching out to you to gauge your interest and request that you apply at our careers website. We do not otherwise process or store such information.

Website Tracking: Like many websites, we use tracking software on our careers website to collect website usage data, which can include personal data. This information allows us to better understand how visitors interact with our website, to monitor aggregate usage patterns, and to customize and otherwise operate our website. We do not support the Do Not Track browser option.

Email Tracking Software: We use third party email tracking software to keep track of how you interact with our recruiting emails, including when you read and respond to our email correspondence. We do this to help improve our services and ensure that we timely respond to your emails and that we do not clutter your inbox with unnecessary emails. We will obtain your express consent prior to tracking your email interactions with us.

Information We Share and Disclose

 

Employment Background Check Providers: If your application for employment is successful, with your consent, we will share your information with employment background check providers to verify your information and to obtain necessary background checks.

Service Providers: We engage service providers to perform functions and provide services to us in the United States, Ireland, and other countries. For example, we use third-party services to help us understand the use of our careers website, such as Google Analytics. We may share your personal information with such service providers subject to obligations consistent with this Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security measures, and on the condition that the third parties use your private personal information only on our behalf and pursuant to our instructions. We follow the Privacy Shield principle of onward transfer liability.

Law, Harm, and the Public Interest: Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy or controls we may otherwise offer to you, we may preserve, use, or disclose your personal information if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to protect the safety of any person; to protect the safety or integrity of our services; to address fraud, security, or technical issues; or to protect our rights or property. However, nothing in this Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy is intended to limit any legal defenses or objections that you may have to a third party’s, including a government’s, request to disclose your personal information.

Affiliates and Change of Ownership: In the event that we are involved in a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your personal information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction. This Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy will apply to your personal information as transferred to the new entity. We may also disclose personal information about you to our corporate affiliates in order to allow them to consider you for employment, or as otherwise permitted by this policy or applicable law.

Managing Your Personal Information with Us

 

You control the personal information you share with us. You can request access to such information, or request to have us rectify or delete such information, at any time.

Accessing or Rectifying Your Personal Information: If you would like to access, correct, or modify the personal information you have shared with us, including your contact and application information, please contact Twitter’s Data Protection Officer here with your request.

Deletion: Generally we will delete your personal information after an unsuccessful application. However, if you had agreed that we can keep your personal information for 12 months after an unsuccessful application, then we will do so to consider you for future employment at Twitter and notify you of recruiting events you may be interested in. At the end of that 12-month period, your personal information will be deleted from our recruiting applications. If you decide during the 12-month period that we not keep your personal information for that period to consider you for future employment at Twitter, please contact Twitter’s Data Protection Officer here to request that your personal information be deleted. Note that we may retain some of your personal information as required by applicable law or Twitter policy.

If your application for employment is successful, we will transfer some of the personal data we have collected about you to your Human Resources file, which is maintained pursuant to Twitter’s internal Human Resources Privacy Policy.

Object, Restrict, or Withdraw Consent: If you would like to object, restrict, or withdraw consent with respect to the personal information you have shared with us, please contact Twitter’s Data Protection Officer here with your request. Changes to this Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy

We may revise this Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy from time to time. The most current version of the policy will govern our processing of your personal information and will always be here. If we make changes to this policy during your recruitment process that, in our sole discretion, has a material impact on your rights with respect to how we process your personal data, we will notify you via email to the email address you provided us. By continuing the recruitment process after those changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Applicant and Candidate Privacy Policy.
