Can’t recommend this stand-up special enough. Hilarious with super sharp social commentary. Maybe the first and only time I’ll hear a bit about John Brown during standup.

Stand-up comedy has the potential to be a liberating artform for women, people of color, LGBT folks & other oppressed people. You have a direct line to an audience with fewer gatekeepers & financial restrictions when starting out compared to other artforms. Laughter rules all.

After watching “Nanette” by , I wasn’t ashamed of comedy nor did I want to quit it. Rather, it challenged me to make more personal art & to continue playing with structure. We will soon see many daring young comics who will cite Hannah as an inspiration

“Nanette” by is a crucial work of art. If you say it’s “anti-comedy,” you didn’t see it or are projecting your own insecurities. She told us how limiting standup was for HER based on HER experiences. By taking this risk, she inspires many more comics to take risks.

In standup, blaming the crowd for a bad show is a weak move. It’s your job to find a way to make strangers laugh. When you start complaining about “political correctness” and how “college kids are too sensitive,” you’re essentially blaming the crowd.

“Knowing that the accent was used to mock us made me very apprehensive to have people meet my family.” found his own comedic voice to skewer the often cartoonish, one-dimensional portrayal of brown people in popular culture.
