Alvis Edgar "Buck" Owens, Jr. (August 12, 1929 – March 25, 2006) was an American musician, singer, songwriter and band leader who had 21 No. 1 hits on the Billboard country music charts with his band the Buckaroos. They pioneered what came to be called the Bakersfield sound, a reference to Bakersfield, California, the city Owens called home and from which he drew inspiration for what he preferred to call American music.
While Owens originally used fiddle and retained pedal steel guitar into the 1970s, his sound on records and onstage was always more stripped-down and elemental, incorporating elements of rock and roll. His signature style was based on simple storylines, infectious choruses, a twangy electric guitar, an insistent rhythm supplied by a drum track placed forward in the mix, and high two-part harmonies featuring Owens and his guitarist Don Rich.
Beginning in 1969, Owens co-hosted the TV series Hee Haw with Roy Clark. He left the cast in 1986. The accidental death of Rich, his best friend, in 1974 devastated him for years and abruptly halted his career until he performed with Dwight Yoakam in 1988. Owens died on March 25, 2006 shortly after performing at his Crystal Palace restaurant, club and museum in Bakersfield.
Buck may refer to:
"Act Naturally" is a song written by Johnny Russell and Voni Morrison, originally recorded by Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, whose version reached number 1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart in 1963, his first chart-topper. In 2002, Shelly Fabian of About.com ranked the song number 169 on her list of the Top 500 Country Music Songs.
The song has been covered by many other artists, including Loretta Lynn, Dwight Yoakam, and the Beatles.
Russell, originally from Mississippi, was based in Fresno, California in the early 1960s. One night, some of his friends from Oklahoma planned to do a recording session in Los Angeles and asked him to join them. In order to do so, Russell had to break a date with his then-girlfriend. "When she asked me why I was going to L.A., I answered, 'They are going to put me in the movies and make a big star out of me.' We both laughed."
Thus inspired, Russell quickly came up with a concept for a love song based around his comment. He wrote it that day, and tried to teach it to the singer he was helping in Los Angeles, but he was unable to learn it. Russell then wanted to record it himself, but his then-producer turned it down, claiming that songs about the movies were not hit material.
Best or The Best may refer to:
A greatest hits album, sometimes called a "best of" album or a catalog album, is a compilation of songs by a particular artist or band. Most often the track list contains previously released recordings with a high degree of notability. However, to increase the appeal, especially to people who already own the original release, it is common to include remixes and/or alternate takes of popular songs; even new material (previously unreleased). At times a greatest hits compilation is the original release for songs that have themselves been released as a single and charted successfully.
Madonna's The Immaculate Collection is the best selling greatest hits compilation by a solo artist; all of the songs on it are presented in different versions than the original hit versions. The Eagles' Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) is the best selling greatest hits compilation by a group and also one of the ten best selling albums in history. Greatest hits albums are typically produced after an artist has had enough successful songs to fill out an album release. Some artists, such as Mariah Carey, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Kenny Rogers, Aerosmith, Kiss, U2, Dolly Parton, Journey, Los Tigres del Norte, Queen, Kylie Minogue and Billy Joel, have released multiple greatest hits albums through their long careers. Some greatest hits albums are released only at the end of the artist or group's career. For example, My Chemical Romance released a greatest hits album after they disbanded. Other artists, like Eminem have released hits albums in the center of their success. He released Curtain Call: The Hits in 2005 and then Shady XV as a compilation album in 2014.

"Buck Owens and the Buckaroos Live At Caregie Hall" was recorded live at Carnegie Hall New York City 1966,as Buck Owens and his Buckaroos became the second country band ever to perform there.Originally released on Capitol Records it was re-issued on CD in 2000 by Sundazed Records. This is the Capitol album. I have had this since its release in 1966. No edits or "cutting off" the ends like the others on YouTube. Because of length, there are 2 parts - this is part 1. The total album time is 50 minutes.
"Under Your Spell Again " from Buck Owens' 'Live From Austin TX' performance. Buy it today on Amazon http://amzn.to/17cm4wj or iTunes http://smarturl.it/BuckOwensLFAT. This man from Sherman, Texas -- probably best known as the wide-grinning rube on Hee Haw for so many years -- started a country music revolution. Or more accurately, a counter-revolution. It was called "the Bakersfield Sound," He and fellow revolutionary Merle Haggard were cranking out raw, hard-driving honky-tonk music that stood the country-pop coming out of Nashville on its head. When Buck Owens and the Buckaroos would launch into "I've got a tiger by the tails, it's plain to see...!" the packed crowds would be on their feet and headed for the dance floor.

Bakersfield Sound pioneers Norm Hamlet, Don Markham, and Fuzzy Owen will discuss their longtime involvement in Bakersfield's music community and their decades of work with Merle Haggard. In the late 1940s, Charles "Fuzzy" Owen began playing steel guitar in Bakersfield clubs, which led to his original recording of "A Dear John Letter" (with Bonnie Owens) and a regular job on the TV show Cousin Herb's Trading Post. As a partner in Tally Records, Owen signed Haggard to his first recording contract. He produced and played steel on Haggard's early records, and became a permanent member of the singer's business organization. Pedal steel guitarist Hamlet recorded in the 1950s with the Farmer Boys and other Bakersfield-area acts before joining Haggard's band in 1967. Saxophonist and trumpeter Mark...

Don Rich was the guitarist for Buck Owens and the Buckaroos. His style of playing helped develop the "Bakersfield Sound" of country music. For some reason, not too many country guitarists play like Don. Don had a very simple style of playing, but it sounded HUGE and was one of the foundations for "chicken' pickin'" guitar. Don's playing was very rhythmic, mostly pentatonic, and favored the lower strings. Here are 10 licks I stole from Don while watching the old episodes of the Buck Owens show and listening to records! If you want my commentary on each lick, check out this article https://mentmorris.wordpress.com/2017/01/09/10-don-rich-guitar-licks/ for more things Bakersfield Sound, Western Swing, Swing, and Country Jazz...visit my website http://www.mentmorris.com !!!

Since you told me yesterday there were things you had to say
I've been waiting for my last chance with you
Something big is on your mind like a spring you must unwind
So I'm waiting for my last chance with you
I'm preparing for tomorrow when you'll break the news to me
I dare not show my sorrow it's not a shoulder that I need
I've a need for you to love me and I tear somebody new
So I'm waiting for my last chance with you
[ steel ]
I've rehearsed the scene all over pretending you were here
I've been practicing the presence of you
I've been wondering how you'd tell me and planning what I'd do
While thinking bout my last chance with you
If I don't win you tomorrow something tells me someone will
Wish I knew where I could borrow some love making skill
I've a need for you to love me and I tear somebody new
