Sam Miranda is the third generation of a prominent winemaking family who moved from Italy to Australia in the 1930s. Having grown up among winemakers in the NSW wine region of Griffith, Sam met growers from the King Valley in Victoria who visited Griffith to sell their fruit. The strong Italian immigrant population of Griffith and the King Valley proved excellent for business and Sam developed strong bonds with the people from the region. In 1991, he finally visited the King Valley, and moved there to take up a winemaking position with the family business, Miranda Wines, in 1996.
The King Valley is an exceptional region for producing wines of high quality and is home to passionate winemakers with fresh ideas. Sam purchased a 70-hectare property on the corner of Snow and King Valley Roads in 1997. Today, the winery and vineyard are at the heart of the Milawa food and wine region and on the way to the snowfields of Bright, Falls Creek and Mount Hotham.
In November 2004 Sam acquired a rich and productive 120-hectare property some 400 metres above sea level in the Myrrhee district, which currently has 12 hectares under vine.
