    UPDATE # 2: OUT OF THE COLD SHELTERS. called me 2 say City’s working 2 have replacement beds 4 those lost by OOTCS closures up & running within 36 hours from this morning, that no resources will be spared, & no1 will b left without shelter 1/

    This is the letter sent to 2day by 9 Out to the Colds requesting the Red Cross open a shelter 4 r guests. During a pandemic r guests MUST be in shelters w/proper standards 2 protect them & the forced nightly migration that's such a danger 2 their health must end.

    So I am just randomly walking home from a presentation where I showed pictures of city workers evicting people and I see this.

    This is what ⁦⁩ evictions look like. Man was quietly lying down inside. Streets to Homes involved and 2. Police. They are unable to tell me where he can go. Shelters full. ⁦⁩ Happening now.

    The prospect of an outbreak hitting Toronto's dangerously overcrowded shelter system is a nightmare scenario. There absolutely needs to be a plan in place. So what is it?

    If you have a home. Going to be a public health disaster if this hits the shelter, respite and drop in centres not to mention the challenges already faced in them by the OD crisis, lack of shelter standards, MRSA, respiratory illnesses, etc etc

    We need to hear the plans for the high risk populations: SSH (shelters, 24 hr respites, women’s overnight drop-ins, day drop-ins) OOTC, long term care. We’ve heard nothing.

    Under the leadership of Toronto Public Health, and with every division at the City of Toronto at the table, we’re working non-stop to prepare for, respond to, and prevent an outbreak of COVID-19 in Toronto. While new communicable diseases are concerning, Toronto is prepared.
