Statistical analysis of science, technology, industry and innovation

Sound measurement is crucial for better policies in science, technology and innovation, and experimentation with metrics based on new tools and data, or new ways of using existing data, are needed to provide insights into emerging areas of policy interest, provoke debate and move the measurement agenda forward.

At the OECD Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation we manage internationally comparable databases on the links between industry, technology, competitiveness and globalisation to inform research, debate and policy making.

About us

Constantly looking for ways of better understanding where our economies and societies are today, and where they are going tomorrow, is part of our DNA at the OECD's Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI). We pride ourselves on tackling topics at the boundaries of our scientific and technological understanding, such as using biotechnology and nanotechnology to alter modes of production, and how digital shifts like “big data", earth observation and digital platforms are changing our world.

We traverse a vast range of topics, developing evidence-based policy advice on the contribution of science, technology and innovation to economies and societies.
