EngageMedia visited Video Volunteers in Goa, India to learn about their video for change approach that enables unheard voices from the rural areas to address critical issues and give them full control over their own narratives.
Video Volunteers is an international media and human rights NGO founded in 2003 that promotes community media to enable citizen participation in marginalized and poor communities around the world.
Its IndiaUnheard program constitutes a network of local community respondents who were trained in community storytelling. IndiaUnheard Community Correspondents produce videos that share and narrate community struggle, which are later published on TV and social networking sites; which link rural communities to a global audience, eventually creating impact.
