This is insanity. You still have time not to do that. #BreakingMyTwitter

What’s your precise concern?
-
Killing off/mutilating 3rd party clients is just a very bad idea. Especially when the official alternatives suck hard. It just might be the final straw for me.http://apps-of-a-feather.com

Every platform that replaced a chronological timeline by something else was hated by its useres for it. The human brain hates it when things don’t have fixed places. A human brain in rage does not pick up commercials. So just stop it.
-
Just to be clear, your specific request is to remove (or make optional) the algorithmic timeline and go to a chronological one? Is that the single feature you want from Twitter?
-
Yes please! This is the exact reason I'm using Twitter for: To get information in a chronological stream, not sorted and filtered by an algorithm that tries to guess what I want to see (and fails). If I wanted Facebook I'd know where to get it.
-
As someone that works on the developer platform these choices are not my call (and subject to much experimentation and data gathering) but I'll pass that along. API timelines are not currently sorted for that algorithm.
-
Thank you. It is kind of frustrating that Twitter doesn't seem to notice it is destroying it's core feature because of a "everyone else uses algorithms to sort the feed, so we must too" kind of thinking.

Why do you hate the developers that made your platform what it is so much?
-
Hi Stephen! I’ve been supporting devs on Twitter professionally for nearly 5 years. That API is 10 years old, and we cannot sustain it any more. We’ve released a webhook based alternative. What are your specific issues?
-
I agree, that’s a great blog entry. The universe has changed. It doesn’t mean we love developers any less.
-
I don't know if you love Twitter devs but you really hate Twitter users who opt for a third party client.

Why do you hate users and developers?

@Twitterrific as often as I can. -
Yeah please go easy on Andy and the other developer relations people - this wasn’t their call and they’ve done the best they can.

These folk answer a lot of tough questions internally and externally and do it with grace and civility despite how they are treated. Respect

Dear
@TwitterAPI@TwitterDev: your second-class treatment of third-party clients sucks. I would accuse you of anticompetitively trying to lock me into something but you killed the official Mac app too! Did you hire@nihilist_arbys to run your product roadmap or something?https://twitter.com/TwitterAPI/status/1029068648000811008 …Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
