An antique (Latin: antiquus; "old", "ancient") is an old collectable item. It is collected or desirable because of its age, beauty, rarity, condition, utility, personal emotional connection, and/or other unique features. It is an object that represents a previous era or time period in human society.
It is common practice to define "antique" as applying to objects at least 100 years old,
Antiques are usually objects that show some degree of craftsmanship—or a certain attention to design, such as a desk or an early automobile. They are bought at antique shops, estate sales, auction houses, online auctions, and other venues, or estate inherited. Antique dealers often belong to national trade associations, many of which belong to CINOA, a confederation of art and antique associations across 21 countries that represents 5,000 dealers.
The common definition of antique is a collectible object such as a piece of furniture or work of art that has a high value because of its considerable age, yet it does in fact vary depending on the source, product, and year. Motor vehicles are an exception to the 100-year rule. The customary definition of antique requires that an item be at least 100 years old and in original.

Pathé News was a producer of newsreels, cinemagazines, and documentaries from 1910 until 1970 in the United Kingdom. Its founder, Charles Pathé, was a pioneer of moving pictures in the silent era. The Pathé News archive is known today as British Pathé. Its collection of news film and movies is fully digitised and available online.
Its roots lie in 1896 Paris, France, when Société Pathé Frères was founded by Charles Pathé and his brothers, who pioneered the development of the moving image. Charles Pathé adopted the national emblem of France, the cockerel, as the trademark for his company. After the company, now called Compagnie Générale des Éstablissements Pathé Frère Pt'honographes & Cinématographes, invented the cinema newsreel with Pathé-Journal. French Pathé began its newsreel in 1908 and opened a newsreel office in Wardour Street, London in 1910.
The newsreels were shown in the cinema and were silent until 1928. At first they ran for about four minutes, and were issued biweekly. Even though during the early days the camera shots were taken from a stationary position, the Pathé newsreels captured events such as Franz Reichelt's fatal parachute jump from the Eiffel Tower, and suffragette Emily Davison's fatal injury by a racehorse at the 1913 Epsom Derby.
A cash register, also referred to as a till in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries, is a mechanical or electronic device for registering and calculating transactions. It is usually attached to a drawer for storing cash and other valuables. The cash register is also usually attached to a printer, that can print out receipts for record keeping purposes.
An early mechanical cash register was invented by James Ritty and John Birch following the American Civil War. James was the owner of a saloon in Dayton, Ohio, USA, and wanted to stop employees from pilfering his profits. The Ritty Model I was invented in 1879 after seeing a tool that counted the revolutions of the propeller on a steamship. With the help of James' brother John Ritty, they patented it in 1883. It was called Ritty's Incorruptible Cashier and it was invented for the purpose to stop cashiers of pilfering and eliminating employee theft or embezzlement.
Early mechanical registers were entirely mechanical, without receipts. The employee was required to ring up every transaction on the register, and when the total key was pushed, the drawer opened and a bell would ring, alerting the manager to a sale taking place. Those original machines were nothing but simple adding machines.

1929 Class 1000, Size 1096 Cash Register Manufactured By (NCR) The National Cash Register Co., Dayton Ohio USA. The pasted paper guarantee located on the underside of the removable cash drawer indicates the names of the original buyer and build inspector. It also indicates, amongst other information, what the separate metal tag's serial# should read. The 1000 Class of registers were key & drawer total adding machines. They were built to outperform the American drawer operated machines and were manufactured up until the 1940's. The register is equipped with a total adding money counter and a customer or total transactions counter. In addition to these counters, there is a small counter called the resetting counter.

Description Old wooden Japanese abacus or soroban. This abacus was designed especially for merchants as many of the bead rows are identified with carved digit markers, while normal Japanese abacus have digit markers only every 3 or 4 rows. The upper part of the abacus is made of oak while the bottom part is made of boxwood. The beads are also made of wood and the bead shafts are lengths of carefully shaved bamboo. This particular soroban was probably manufactured between 1850 and 1930. This date range can be inferred due to the number of beads it contains. Soroban manufactured in Japan before 1850 included a 2/5 bead combination (2 beads on the upper deck and 5 beads on the lower deck). The Japanese formally changed to a 1/5 style in 1850 and then finally a 1/4 style in 1930 when all of...

Ran across this ultra rare, esoteric piece of early 60s kit literally buried under a pile in a corner of an antique store. The owner let me open it up at the counter and inspect it. Still having little idea what it was originally supposed to do, beyond being some specialized tool relating to watch making or clock repair, I bought it anyway. It's a Precise Watch Timer made by Precise Manufacturing Company of Springfield, Illinois. It contains 3 tubes, a 12AX7, a 6AU6, and a 2D21. In this video we will convert it into an overdrive preamp and we might even be able to make it into a tremolo effect as well! Eats a Fender Greta Pawnshop Series Amp for breakfast!

The Brass Armadillo Antique Mall in Denver will celebrate Cyber Monday on November 28, 2016 with a huge sale. Items listed in the iAntique Classifieds selling for $75 or more will be discounted 20%, and items selling for more than $200 may be eligible for free shipping. The antiques industry has been slow to embrace Cyber Monday, which began in 2005 as a promotion by the National Retail Federation, but the rest of retail has incorporated it wholeheartedly in its marketing programs. Last year more than $3 billion was sold online on Cyber Monday. Why shouldn't we grab a piece of that pie, which will be exponentially greater this year? Tune in this Sunday evening, November 6, 2016 for this week's show which explains the methodology we'll be using. And please let us know if you have any sugges...
