Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath [1970] {{Stoner Collection #17}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 017-===

Hello folks.;
So, by now I should be recovering from the steroid reduction eh?
I should at least be feeling better after not lowering the dose any more for almost two weeks now.?
Nope.
The Crohn's disease has now become so terrible that the steroid withdrawal seems almost easy by comparison.
now I find myself in a situation of my own making - kind of. If I had stayed on the high dose of steroids then the illness would not have increased so dramatically (or would it?) but if I had carried on taking them then I was heading for the serious side effects of which I already have Osteoporosis but thankfully nothing too bad like Diabetes or cancer. I do have muscle atrophy and thinning of the skin (Crap picture but I couldn't find a better one. Just imagine no wrinkles on it) and other minor(!) complaints so I stopped them at the right time I think.
Hey don't forget to look at the LASTING PERMANENT DAMAGING EFFECTS opf these horrible shit steroids. I don't remember being warned quite to the degree that I should have been, when I was put n them!
When I say 'stopped' I mean I have managed to reduce them to 6mg and I cannot reduce them any further. For now at least. I still dream of not taking any one day but it is becoming just that...a dream.
If this is boring and not what you came here to read then I'm sorry. Pain has become my life recently and there's fuck all I can do about it.
At least understand why I must talk of it!

Most days I can't even get on the computer as I feel so weary and tired out, having to sit up at the PC chair is too much believe it or not. If it were just pain I could deal with it somehow. It isn't 'just pain' though, the pain brings an overwhelming feeling of weakness and sickness...you go weak to the point of feeling you will faint, the room spins, you shake and sweat drips from your head whilst the most raw and tender pain swells in your abdomen and goes into a severe cramp that takes your breath away and makes you moan almost as a reflex to it. You curl up and want it to stop. Nothing else can enter your head when it gets to this point. just pure pain and a feeling of: ILL.
What can I say?
Just thought I'd share that with you.

I'll just keep the following in my posts for now so I don't have to explain over and over..
I can only really say one word: Steroids.
Well, maybe I should make that two or three:
Steroid Reduction Sucks.

Enter...BLACK SABBATH.
You have heard of them right?
Either you love them and have a lot of their music or you don't mind them and have maybe a greatest hits album or this one, or, you hate them. I just think that, if you are in the last category then there is also a good chance that you haven't really given their music a chance.
In other words a lot of folk who say Black sabbath are shit, or bands like them, usually haven't listened to them or don't have anything by them! They just have an attitude of Heavy Metal being freaky shit for long haired spotty youths or middle aged beer-bellied hicks with mullets and bad manners and an unhealthy obsession with guitars or guitarists and loose women...and something to do with too much masturbation and not enough interaction with females...

That sounds about right actually :)
Hehe.
No!
You must give it a try or you will forever be an arrogant dick who thinks they know it all but haven't actually tested these beliefs about the world (or the world's music).
Am I making sense or is it just the tablets?

I speak from experience.
I used to say 'Heavy Metal? No thanks!' for years until a guy I met played some to me and I really got into it!
How about this for a fact though: not heavy metal. Not metal really in my opinion, just Rock.
Good..
old..
solid
ROCK music.

In it's purest form.
This band is Rock.

Just download it and comment.
Thanks :)

By the way this is 320K MP3 and it's the double CD Deluxe Version remastered (2009).

I suppose he could sell his lungs to some potheads to scrape them out and dry them for the THC?

I am now at 5.5mg of Steroids per day for my Crohn's disease, as opposed to the dose I started on, 15mg. This is the most difficult things I have tried to do: come off medically prescribed Hydrocortisone.

I hope to come out of the other side of this at some point, with my faculties intact. they appear to have left me during the process and it is just bloody horrible 23 hours out of 24.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold as Love [1967] {{Stoner Collection #4}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 004-===

Hello again.
Isn't it fucking COLD now!. At least in Southern england it is. I remember an American friend I used to know, he always laughed or took the piss whenever I said something like 'Southern England' or 'up North' as he said the country seemed so small to him that it didn't seem large enough to nominate anywhere as the south or the North part of it,. Well I disagree! Oh and if you know anything about British folk in general, you would know that they regard such names and designated areas highly. Nobody from the South would like to be mistaken for someone from the North. I'd say that the same goes for Northerners, they don't want to be Southerners either! There is a bit of a divide ... it's quite a topic and one I like to go on about sometimes but, I am guessing that you didn't come here to read about that.
At least if you are from outside the UK, you have learned a little factoid for the day!
As I was saying, it is COLD in the South! It went down to -4C last night and I can confirm it really felt like it.

So on with the show.
Next in the list is a band I really have no interest in and, to be honest I can't f*ckin' stand them.
The guitarist especially is weak and I feel he drags down the rest of the band into his scantily talented void of piss and wind. It took a lot of determination to listen to this abhorrent maudlin drivel to the end. In fact to be honest I didn't listen, I just had to stop it after 3 tracks.
I mean it's just outstandingly bad.
OK OK I just cannot continue with this.
I thought it would be novel to slag off what I consider to be one of the best bands ever but I just cannot do it.
This album is a defining moment in the history of music and has influenced so many others that to not see this, to not understand this and to not have listened to this ... well that would be criminal as well as awful.
Where do you start, trying to explain tracks like 'Spanish Castle Magic' or 'Little Wing'?!!
Little Wing is one of my all time loves let me just say.
Then you have the absolutely brilliant 'Castles Made of Sand' and then 'Bold as Love'?! The only possible way to understand these tracks is by hearing them!
The way these tracks make me feel is really hard to define.
I am stuck for words so if any of this is new to you, I urge you to listen now.

It's unoriginal but, I sometimes wonder, what Jimi Hendrix would have been if he hadn't died when he did?
I mean, how would his music have become, shaped by the years and the way the world has changed so dramatically since his death?
Would he still be setting fire to guitars?
I doubt it.
I think he would have become a wiser and possibly calmer, sage of a man. His talent would never leave him of course.
Maybe a bit of a David Gilmour but with harder balls. Hehe.
Make sure you have a listen ;)

Are YOU experienced??? Well come, Experience Hendrix. { DIVX VIDEO DVD-RiP }

Hello hello hello.
Damn I am really starting to dislike the way I have this set up with the large letter at the beginning of every post.
I actually like that, it's the problem of the way the text is almost running into the borders of the columns on each side. I want to somehow make the central area have a space on each side between the side columns, if you're still with me.
I know, you really don't give a flying monkeys so let's get on with the music. Flying Monkey!

Experience Hendrix. I have raved about it. I have posted tracks from it. I have shared the mp3's ripped directly from the DVD.
Well I finally have the audacity to offer you the rip of the complete show.
I will post a wee preview for you that I sent to google video. (Now that youtube is going to delete music videos posted by UK users...grrrr).
Need I repeat the information about the Experience Hendrix Tour concept?
No, of course not. Have a look Here, Here and OK then, Here too if you really don't know what it's all about.
In a sentence: It is a collaboration of great guitarists playing a concert as a tribute to Hendrix and they only play Hendrix tunes.
There you go! Who needs wikipedia?!

A Tracklist is in order I suppose...
Kenny Wayne Shepherd & Double Trouble: "Come On (Let The Good Times Roll)," "Voodoo Chile" and "I Don't Live Today"
Indigenous: "Hear My Train A Comin"
Living Colour: "Power Of Soul" and "Crosstown Traffic"
Eric Gales: "Purple Haze"
Hubert Sumlin, Jimmy D. Lane & Double Trouble: "Bleeding Heart" and "Killing Floor"
Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox & Andy Aledort: "Freedom"
Paul Rodgers, Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Andy Aledort & Kenny Olson: "Stone Free"
Buddy Guy, Andy Aledort & Double Trouble: "Hoochie Coochie Man"
Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Andy Aledort & Double Trouble: "Five Long Years"
The Ensemble: "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)"

BONUS SONGS:
Robert Randolph & Double Trouble: "Purple Haze"
Mick Taylor & Indigenous: "Red House"
Eric Gales, Billy Cox & Buddy Miles: "Foxey Lady"

You already know what I think of Eric Gales but I swear, this video preview was chosen at random!!!
Honestly!
It just so happened that I stopped the film at Eric Gales and chopped that part out to upload to google...

Jim White - Wrong Eyed Jesus (1997)

Hello again so soon!

I did say I had a great album for you and this is the truth!
In fact, what better Christmas gift to you could I leave!!
I am leaving for the train station in about ten minutes so, forgive me for not writing much here!!

There is a documentary/film with the same name, or more accurately 'Searching for the Wrong-eyed Jesus' which is a BBC thing and sounds really interesting. so I am going to get that also and maybe share the film here too if you want?

I got the music a while back and I just love the guys voice. The lyrics are poetry in motion too.
This guy is one of those rare finds. Like the Bob dylans and the Tom Waits before him. He has that special something.
Listen and you will see.

Expect more of him soon after I get back.

OK folks, have a good one as they say!

See you in a week or so.

A post for guitarists - Or did you ever fancy your hand at trying to learn?

Due to the absolutely overwhelming amount of feedback here I have been unable to post as I am literally snowed under with having to go through comment after comment after comment..etc,..
It's good though because I am now aware of just how much you appreciate Tom Waits and his older, less heard, bootleg stuff.
Therefore I will be bringing you PLENTY MORE so thanks again for the feedback.
OK. I know I'm not funny but one tries.
Fuckin sarcasm.
...great isn't it.?

A little bird told me the other day that, the lovely (understatement of the decade!!!), hand crafted, black with an orange (wood) trim that looks just ... erm, oh yes, the lovely GUITAR that I regularly drool over in the local music shop (like some nerdy teenager - I know hehe) is actually going to be MINE.
Mine, all mine har-har-har-haaaar.
I can hardly believe it but it's true indeed.
My lady, Her Ladyship as I will call her for the purposes of not naming her on this blog, well she let it slip that she has procured this very item for my Christmas!
Now, usually I would be all for comments such as 'Christmas is a load of ol' bollocks these days' and 'fuckin' christmas is just commercial shite' or even 'FUCK CHRISTMAS', but on this occasion I may have a slight change of heart.
I mean, come on!
Christmas isn't that bad!
Don't be a miserable twat.

To celebrate the oncoming guitar-laden virtual heaven on earth situation that awaits, I thought I would share with you some of the ebookery that resides on my ever swollen Hard Drive(s). There are lots of places to purloin ebooks on the net but not everyone is a google master (thank you, thank you) and also, I seem to have collected some ebooks that, when searched for now, are not around or easy to find.
So I bring you...a few guitar Learning books followed by a few guitar Tablature (that's songbooks with the guitar chords etc in them for you beginners!) books too.
I can't give you every one I have but I tried to pick out a range so there will be something in the TAB books for everyone I hope.
No actual music today but tonight is Dylan Radio Night so I'm already busy soon!

Now, there are a few of these I uploaded to megaupload earlier so I have decided to make one of those megaupload folders which, if you care, just means that I only have to post one single link and you will see all of the books when you follow it, then choose what you want from there!
Great eh?!
Well it is for me. :)

Richie Havens - Mixed Bag [1967]

Good evenin' and welcome.
Hmm. I thought twice about posting this after re listening to it today and not getting on too well with some of its deeper moments of utter cheesiness and almost sickeningly sweet pop.
But wait...I can totally understand why he called it Mixed Bag, do, read on:

On the other hand Havens was a cool dude. His unique and original guitar playing style is amazing. So simple but he's the only guy who plays that way. I think he always plays open tuned guitars too or he definitely does tune the guitar differently, I remember that much. I should look it up.
So this must be posted for, in between the cheese and pap there are some brilliant gems of true Richie Havens magicK!
You must have some...

Jimi Hendrix - 3 nights of Winter DISC 4 Alt (The Winterland shows, Alternate Version) [Bootleg (ATM 014)]

Here is where I admit what a fool I am. You might be aware of the recent Jimi Hendrix ATM sets I was posting?
Well I already said I was confused about the numbers and the artworks for each one but now, I have discovered more to confuse and irritate and, make me look a fool.
The Three Disc Set (As I called it) is actually not only 3 discs...let me just show you the copy&paste; from the only good source I know and then you will be as educated as me on this subject..!

'Three Nights of Winter (Alternate Version)
(ATM 011-012 / 013 B / 014-016 / 16.03.1999 / 6CDR)
(Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA 10.10.68 [Complete 1st & 2nd Show] / Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA 11.10.68 [1st Show & Complete 2nd Show] / Winterland Arena, San Francisco, CA 12.10.68 [Complete 1st & 2nd Show] plus Civic Opera House, Chicago, IL 25.02.68) Winterland: Stereo Sbd; 2nd Gen / Chicago: Aud; 3rd Gen
notes:
- This Alternate version of "Three Nights of Winter" follows the Whoopy Cat-tradition ("Winterland Vol.2" (ftbfs: B458)) of adding the Chicago Aud Recording from 25.02.68 as supplement to the available Sbd tracks from Winterland 11.10.68; 1st Show on Disc 3, instead of adding tracks from the Winterland Aud recording to make up for the missing Sbd tracks..
'

So there you have it. Even that is hard to work out completely but I think it tells me that the ATM sets from ATM 011 to 016 are all part of this Winterland set.
So I have now upped the rest of them and will be giving you the links to the sets up to number 016.
Due to illness and lacking in energy quite dramatically(!yeah I mean it!) I didn't listen to the tracks on these ones and rename accordingly. So you are getting them as a folder with tracks like
Track 01.mp3, track02.mp3 etc.
If someone would l like to tell the tracklist after having a listen through them then I will surely be grateful!.
Back to the copying and pasting of the previous posts for this set then!

The Raconteurs at Glastonbury Festival 2008 (FULL SET DIVX VIDEO!)

Hey Hey Hey it's me again...
The Raconteurs. yes I know, I am obsessed already.
I fuckin' love this band with a passion!
I sorted out the files I found for each song on video and have posted them as separate tracks for those that want them that way but, as they are all the same format and bitrate they do join together (they were probably one file at some point methinks) and so, the best way to join them is a little script I wrote that you can download along with the files. Just grab all the files, put them in the same folder as the script file contents, run the script and Nandub program will join them all exactly as they should be. (If you do it with some other 'video joiner' program it is likely there will be spaces or glitches introduced so you are warned! this way is the right way!).

So anyway, the video...it's a rockin' show.
I have now seen quite a few concerts and heard a few bootlegs of this band and I have to say, this glastonbury set is among their best for ful on performance and energy.

It's brilliant I swear it.

I will just post the bloody links...

SONDRE LERCHE Live at Paradiso Club, Amsterdam...check it out.

Hello once more.
Just a quick post to point you to a website I just discovered and specifically a band that I am really thinking is damn good.
I only discovered the site and the band about half an hour ago right so, if I am wrong then so be it.

Beat me later.
For now I will recommend you have a listen and see what you think.
It gives me a chance to test out the websites video embedding facility too.
Get on over there and find yourself a concert to watch..streaming, nice quality if your bandwidth is large enough (mine is about 6-7Mbit down and 48K up and it goes really well). You don't even have to register to watch or search the videos:
http://www.fabchannel.com

The band is unknown to me (called Faces Down) and the singer is Sondre Lerche. I won't pretend to know anything and fully admit to doing what you could do yourself but here it is anyway...copy and paste a little info for you:
Through the records of his older brother and sisters, the Norwegian singer/songwriter Sondre Lerche discovered A-Ha, The Beach Boys and Elvis Costello. Inspired by their music he picked up the guitar. At the age of 14, Sondre started playing open mic nights in different clubs. He got signed by Virgin even before his 16th birthday.
After his 2002 debut 'Faces Down', 2007 saw the release of his already fourth record 'Phantom Punch'. It was recorded with his band The Faces Down and is, contrary to its subtle predecessors, a punchy and danceable pop record.

I bloody like it I must say.
Hmm. Things are looking up.
I like two new(to me) bands in as many weeks?

I hope you will watch this concert and enjoy it.

[[If you cannot watch a concert above click here to open it in a new page]]

More soon my diehard visitors.

Thanks for your support by the way.

The Raconteurs - Live at Vegoose, Las Vegas 10-28-2006

Hey Hey Heeeyy!!!!! Another update so soon? Posting them one after the other?
Me Oh My I must be losing it. Perhaps I am just starting to get it together. We shall see. I never make promises around here any more as I never stick to them right? So lets just take it as it comes, like I am having to do with the old illness these recent months.

I told you I was obsessed with The Raconteurs and, well, I didn't lie.
When I get obsessed with a certain band or music, I go full on into it...head first. Sometimes this results in my having a bit of an overdose and, if the band isn't up to it (hehe) then I can even get sick of them really soon and have to stop. Sometimes I have actually gone off a band that way and never liked them much afterwards - even though upon first impressions I thought they were just amazing(think, Jason Mraz...). I am happy to say that I am not usually this fickle. That has only happened on rare occasions.

Here we have a live set by my favourite band(!).

I wasn't there, I don't even know where it is but I do know it sounded great. They don't let you down as they, just like at Glastonbury as I mentioned before, put out such a blast of Bluesy rock that just hits me right in the soul...
Or somewhere. I'm not sure exactly where. It hits me though.

There is no getting away from the progressive rock influences in their music. Yet it isn't done in a way that, as can happen often these days, makes people run the other way and say it's a load of old hippy shit. Hehe.
No. The Raconteurs do it inside the complete package that is their whole Rock Music thing. Metal, Folk, Country, Blues and then some...
..sometimes so many styles in a single track, sometimes one track is country/blues/psychedelic and the next sounds just so much Pure Rock or,...well, what we have come to call 'indie'.
Whatever that really means but I think you get what I am saying.
Maybe I should say 'alternative'.
Anyway I love how they blend all of these great parts of music together into their own thing and out comes The Raconteurs. No boring and overrated White Stripes...and no Brandon Benson not quite doing so well either...The Raconteurs have been practising from what I can gather and they really are the ones to be listening to for your sounds of summer. These guys play so well together it hurts. The drummer is very much every bit as good as Keith Moon etc. Watch him..he is mesmerizing, he gets so immersed in the music.
That's all music is about in my mind. That immersion. that feeling that lasts whilst the music is flowing. When you are the one creating the music you really get to experience it like nothing else.

It's weird to be coming to the party so late. The astute among you (are there any? - people here I mean..hehe) will have noticed that this band I am saying is so great and new(to me) has music out since 2006.
I know. I think I may have been in a 'UK music is boring and USA music is just as crap' induced coma until recently.
I am waking up.
Slowly.

This show is in great and very clear sound quality.
It's incredible the level of quality some tapers accomplish.
This is a fine example of that.
You wouldn't think the guy was taping the show but I suppose, it isn't exactly taping like when I were a lad is it.
..you know, cassette tapes and those rectangular tape recorder machines with the strap?

Maybe not.

The Raconteurs, Consolers of The Lonely [2008]

Hello fellow ingrates... I thought I would try something new today that is, post an update only one day after the last one. Wow. I am so overcome with interest and excitement for this great music that The Raconteurs are giving my head that I am obviously becoming too happy.
Must keep an eye on that situation eh.
I have now sourced quite a few goodies by them and will be putting each of them up here as I sort them...
Some great bootlegs are available to all...if you just know how or where to look for them. Etree is a good place now and then as is The Traders Den and I discovered that they seem to be OK with taping at their chows which is always nice of a band to be that way. Some of them are real cnuts when it comes to taping.

I hate to be so common and all but I feel I can't tell you about how great their album is and then not actually let you hear it so, in common with a million other blogs over the past few erm...however long it is (!) ...
... here is their latest album and well may you enjoy it too.

The Raconteurs, Broken Boy Soldiers [2006]

Hello again...long time no see and all that.
I wasn't fit or lucky enough to actually go to the Glastonbury festival yet again but I was lucky enough to be in front of the TV just at the right time to see something I considered pretty spectacular!
Yeah, really.
It isn't as inevitable as it sounds-being in front of the TV I mean: I rarely watch TV these days...I can't stand the diet of utter shite they feed us through the TV wires.
It stinks.
Big time.
I hate it.
Advertising actually makes me angry.
Maybe anger management would be the answer. If I lived in America maybe.
Over here we just live in our bitterness and stew in it.
Releasing it at weekends is the usual pastime. At football matches or in pubs when the fighting is mandatory.

Anyway...!
The raconteurs.
Why had I not listened to them before now?
Jack White.
The problem I had with this band, or any band he was in(or with) in the past would be one thing...the word 'tosser' always overtook my mind and it was always a bit off-putting. He just..arrgghh! He just pissed me off.
I am so judgemental it hinders my enjoyment sometimes.
Obviously.
Naa. I don't agree with that last statement at all.
I reckon, until Jack White started this last album with The Raconteurs he was a bit of a wash out. Not quite hitting it. Always working away, always putting out music but somehow, something wasn't quite doing it.
Not for me anyway and I know I'm not alone in this.

So on we go to 2008 and their Glastonbury performance.
Did you see it?
Were you THERE...you lucky person...grr...envy...
Would you like to see it in pretty good captured from digital TV, their set on there? (Let me know as I have it and I love it) - leave comments.
I justsat and watched it. that's all.
Fucking absolutely mind-blowing is all I can say.
They were so tight, reminded me of what you might term 'the perfect Rock band' or something... hehe.
Seriously!
Led Zeppelin used to do that.
To have a band in 2008 that even comes close (and admittedly they do sound like them too in some tracks) is just incredible.
I have been listening to them a lot since I watched them and it just gets better.
They really rock!

I am posting the older album for you here as it would seem the new one is everywhere already (I will post it next of course!).
So if you are late to the joys of this best band of our times then here is your chance...start now.
Good night!

Jimi Hendrix - 3 nights of Winter DISC 3 Alt (The Winterland shows, Alternate Version) [Bootleg (ATM 013b)]

Time for more Jimi Hendrix?
Already?
Damn right.
Not much time in my world for much else tonight but I think you will be happy with this.
Now, this shit is confusing me but I had it all sorted out with the cover art when I posted the last one of these so you will just have to trust me.
This is disc 3, labelled ATM 13(b).
In essence it is another disc 3..
...maybe they could have called it disc 4?
Just an idea.

The next instalment in the great -

'Hendrix Archived Traders Material blog posting'!

The Jimi Hendrix Experience at The Winterland, San Francisco, 11th October 1968 - the First Show that is the only remaining part missing if you study the covers for these.

Jimi Hendrix - 3 nights of Winter DISC 3 (The Winterland shows, Alternate Version) [Bootleg (ATM 013a)]

Let me start things off tonight with the next Hendrix ATM disc or two...
These just get better and better if I remember rightly (it's been a while since I listened to them in order like they are being posted but, I am doing it now so it's great. Every time I post one I end up playing it for a while until the next), you do get such variances in quality though and sometimes I hear an audience Taped Recording and, unless you were really obsessive about owning every sound the band ever made within taping distance then there's no point in owning some of them...you can't make out shit.
If I think of any examples I'll post them.
Gladly none of these ATM sets are quite so bad. Which is why I chose these to post...and to get for myself a while back because they are put together for the fact that they are good bootlegs.
(there's still a few out of the 256 (I think) that sound a bit shit!)

So, Here is the third disc of 3 Nights of Winter Alternate Version [Disc Three] which contains:
The Jimi Hendrix Experience at The Winterland, San Francisco, 11th October 1968
, plus tracks from another show - Civic Opera House, Chicago. 25th February, 1968

More copy&paste stuff from here down until you hit the tracklist!
The covers that came with this bootleg set were friggin' confusing to say the least. I seem to have been given the covers for a few different versions and boot releases of these shows...thus making it bloody hard to work out which version each disc or even track is taken from!
I may have been wrong on one of the covers. The one for this disc Three actually seems to be correct.
This is one area of bootlegs I think is really REALLY fucking SHIT. The cover art got overlooked and has been left miles behind the great archives of music and video that has been collected and put together for everyone to swap. I have rarely seen any good bootleg art that comes with it. I should try my hand at making some.
