European Functions

Article 29 Working Party: The Working Party seeks to harmonise the application of data protection rules throughout the EU, and publishes opinions and recommendations on various data protection topics

 

Customs Information System (CIS): The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), the CIS Supervision Coordination Group and the Customs Joint Supervisory Authority supervise data processed within the CIS to ensure compliance with data protection legislation.

European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS)/Europol Cooperation Board (ECB): The EDPS is designated as the supervisor of personal data processing since 1 May, 2017. The EDPS cooperates closely with national supervisory authorities through a Europol Cooperation Board (ECB).

EUROJUST Joint Supervisory Body: This body meets in the Hague to ensure that cross-border cooperation between EU judicial and prosecution authorities respects data protection rights.

EURODAC Supervision Coordination Group: This Group ensures that the sharing of personal data relating to asylum seekers between EU countries takes place in a manner that respects data protection rights.

SIS II Supervision Coordination Group:  Ensures coordinated supervision of the Schengen Information System (SIS II) between national data protection authorities and the European Data Protection Supervisor.
