The International Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners Conference, was established in 1979 and convenes once a year.

2009 - The 31st International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners, Madrid, November 2009

Madrid, Spain 4th - 6th November 2009

The 31st International Conference set itself the challenge of achieving the approval of a joint proposal on “International Standards for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Data”, allowing the development of a universal, binding legal document, which must be backed by the most extensive institutional and social consensus via the participation of the authorities and institutions guaranteeing data protection and privacy and representatives of both public and private entities and organisations.

Recognize Privacy by Design as an essential component of fundamental privacy protection, to encourage the adoption of Privacy by Design’s Foundational Principles, such as: the promotional distribution of materials, education and personal advocacy, the formulation of privacy policy and legislation within their respective jurisdictions and proactively encouraging research on Privacy by Design.

The 33rd International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners explored the path towards building the relationships and tools necessary to protect the Data of individuals regardless of culture, national borders, or the challenges that come from innovative data uses. It also recognised the fact that new businesses, technologies and applications use information in innovative ways that in turn create real economic value.

During the 34th International Conference held on 25 and 26 October 2012 in Uruguay, the Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners placed Profiling at the centre of their discussions. This debate followed the discussion in Mexico City in 2011 on the ever growing amount of data being collected and processed by both private and public sector entities from around the world.

2013 - The 35th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners, Warsaw, September 2013

2014 – The 36th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners, Balaclava, Mauritius, October 2014

Balaclava, Mauritius from the 13th to the 16th October 2014.

This conference was held in Balaclava, Mauritius from the 13th to the 16th October 2014. It focus on issues such as: the Internet of Things, Big Data, Global Cross Border Enforcement Cooperation and Privacy in the Digital Age.
