Limerick end their 45-year wait for the big prize
Limerick 3-16 Galway 2-18
At the end of 45 years there were more than 79 minutes on the match clock. To Limerick it must have felt like time without end. Nature notes
An eye-catching daytime moth that is being reported in many parts of the south is the Jersey tiger moth. It used to be found mainly in Jersey, hence its name, but it has spread recently across the Channel and has become quite common in gardens around London. It lies on a flower or leaf with its upper wings spread out, like most moths, and these are an arresting black with a tree-like pattern of white streaks on them. When it opens its upper wings and suddenly reveals the hind wings that were hidden beneath them it is a dramatic moment, for these are a startling orange with black spots on them. Their abrupt exposure frightens birds off. The garden tiger moth, a related species, is still found, though it used to be much more common. It displays creamy-white upper wings with wavy black streaks on them and when it opens them reveals either orange or yellow hind wings. It has hairy brown caterpillars that can sometimes be seen walking fast along garden paths, and are known as “woolly bears”.
