Software Engineer, Backend (Analytics) - Discovery
Who We Are
We believe that automation is necessary to scale Twitter to our millions of users across the world, but human curation allows Twitter to provide context and tell stories. The curation teams at Twitter already touch many product surface areas including Trends, Search, and Moments. As we continue to increase the responsibilities of the curation teams, we also need to grow the engineering team that develops the tools they use 24 hours a day including the analytics dashboards that allow our curation teams to continuously improve the content they produce.
Who You Are
- You are a backend engineer with experience designing, building and maintaining analytics pipelines.
- You are someone who enjoys tight feedback loops with internal users and is always thinking of ways to improve the products they help create.
- You are a proactive developer that analyzes upcoming projects, determines necessary analytics changes, and works with various distributed teams to implement those changes.
- You are someone that can communicate technical details to non-technical co-workers.
Qualifications
- You have experience designing, building, and optimizing distributed systems.
- You have working knowledge of multiple data storage mediums e.g. SQL, key-value, HDFS, etc with proficiency in at least one storage medium.
- You are comfortable with A/B testing methodologies.
- You have a B.S. or higher in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
Bonus Points
- Exposure to Scala or other JVM languages.
- Experience with Hadoop or Map/Reduce abstractions like Scalding.
Engineering Hiring Process
Step 1
Once your application is received, a recruiter will reach out pending your qualifications are a match for the role.
Step 2
If your background is a match, you may have 1-2 technical phone interviews or be given the chance to provide a work sample depending on the role.
Step 3
If the phone interviews go well or your work sample is strong, the final step includes interviews with 5-6 people held onsite in our office.
