Our Short History of Bulgaria will tell you about the most significant events on the Balkans, from the time before Bulgaria was established to modern days. Here you will learn about the great empires of the Balkans, where did the Bulgarians came from and how they established the first Bulgarian state in the year 681, the rise and fall of their empires and the modern revolutions on the Balkans.
The man in traditional clothing – the symbol of this website – is called Hitar Petar (“hitar” means cunning). He is the most famous trickster of Bulgarian folklore and is part of hundreds of tales and stories that both kids and adults love. An interesting fact about Hitar Petar is that he is sometimes depicted with ginger hair (like we did), but the most typical hair-color in Bulgaria is black. (Bulgarians actually came from Asia, read more about that here).

What I mean that although the state is catching up with the EU, for the last 26 years both the wages and the living costs in Bulgaria have been times lower than the average for the European Union.
Bulgaria is famous for its highly qualified scientists, sharp-minded mathematicians and, in recent years, excellent software and web developers. Today hundreds of IT companies are exporting their businesses to Bulgaria because they find the experts they need in any field at half the cost. At first glance this may seem a bit wrong, but in fact these types of companies offer a lot more than the local ones and some of the best working conditions to their employees.
