Michael Russell Brown (born 3 July 1951) is a British political journalist, noted as a former Conservative Party Member of Parliament (MP) from 1979 to 1997.
Brown was educated at the Andrew Cairns Secondary Modern School, Sussex, and the University of York, where he was friends with, and a contemporary of both Harvey Proctor and Christine Hamilton (née Holman).
After studying for a year at Middle Temple, he worked as a graduate management trainee for Barclays Bank from 1972 to 1974 then as a lecturer and tutor at Swinton Conservative College from 1974 to 1975.
From 1975 to 1976 he was a part-time research assistant to Michael Marshall MP, working for Nicholas Winterton MP from 1976 to 1979.
Brown was selected for the marginal constituency of Brigg and Scunthorpe and was elected at the 1979 general election. In 1983, following favourable boundary changes, he was elected for the new seat of Brigg and Cleethorpes. This followed a bitter selection battle between Brown and Michael Brotherton, who was MP for the Louth constituency, which included the towns of Immingham and Cleethorpes.
Michael Henry Brown was Dean of Saint Paul's Cathedral, Wellington from 1985 to 2002.
Brown was educated at the University of Canterbury; and ordained in 1964. After curacies in Linwood and Ashburton he held incumbencies at Marchwiel, Burwood and Merivale. He was also Archdeacon of Rangiora.
Michael Glyn Brown (1957 – November 8, 2013) was a hand surgeon from Greater Houston, Texas. Brown was the owner of the Brown Hand Center. He was also the owner, manager, or officer in several other businesses, including the St. Michael's Center for Speciality Surgery with locations in three states, the Achilles Foot and Ankle Specialists, LLC, the Allied Center for Special Surgery, and several other companies.
Craig Malislow of the Houston Press said that Brown was "long a fixture of Houston TV commercials and society." He became notable for his association with high society and with scandals related to his behavior which resulted in the loss of his medical license, a conviction for wife-beating, and a federal conviction for interfering with a flight attendant. His controversies ended with his suicide attempt and death.
Brown was born in Galena Park, Texas in the Greater Houston area. While attending Galena Park Jr. High School, he saw a film of Michael DeBakey performing heart surgery. He wanted to be a heart surgeon, but he said that he ultimately became a hand surgeon because the practice allowed for greater creativity and was "more profitable and glamorous." In 1975 he graduated from Galena Park High School with honors.
