He also denied any connection to malware attacks - and said they “just” traced IP addresses and sent fake FB login pages... whatever he’s done I hope he isn’t scapegoated for this...

The man who wrote it confirmed to me it was real and he wrote it whilst employed at ISPR... however, he denied targeting human rights activists, only people “abusing institutions”

This document is one of the most striking things discovered whilst investigating these malware attacks... it outlines the work of cyber experts on behalf of the Pakistani Army to “trace IP addresses” and “compromise” targeted accounts...

One of the pieces of malware would’ve sent stolen data to a server registered to this man in Lahore. He says he’s a Brit citizen... he said he wasn’t involved in any malware attacks, and that his details were falsely used... shortly after I called him - the server was taken down

This is “Mahrukh Zman” she requested the email addresses of a number of activists and then sent them malware disguised as her cv / thesis etc... she also targeted a senior civil servant who asked me not to reveal his name... shows this could just be the tip of the iceberg...

This is “Sana Halimi” v likely a photo stolen from someone else... She pretended to be a friend of “disappeared” activist Raza Khan in order to send malware to one of his friend campaigning for his return...

I’m going to share some pics of the fake Facebook accounts (now taken down mysteriously) involved in sending malware... please circulate so if any activists / journalists have been contacted by them - they know they may have been hacked...

Amongst the discoveries we made as a result of Amnesty’s work: a cyber security expert employed by ISPR (Media Wing of army) admitted he was tasked with tracing IP addresses of “people abusing institutions” and sending them fake Facebook login pages...

Amnesty managed to identify some of those linked to the creation of the malware - but not who was responsible for sending it to the activists... one of the victims we spoke to though was clear “this is the work of the intelligence services”

Nawaz sticking to his statement on Mumbai, PM Abbasi insisting he was misunderstood, the NSC rejecting it as "fallacious" and Shehbaz saying it is not the party stance. It's pandemonium out there!

This is such a horrific story... A man in Baluchistan says he had eyes gouged out by his father and some of his brothers... Why?! Because he wanted to marry a girl they disapproved of... here he says “without my eyes what life do I have left” (via BBC Urdu)
