VHP Leader Ashok Singhal, the man who rejuvenated Hinduism passes away

Shri Ashok Singhalji took his last breath at the age of 89 at 2:24 pm on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. He was undergoing treatment at Medanta, Gurgaon. Born on September 15, 1926 in Agra, Singhal was the working president of the International chapter of Vishwa Hindu Parishad for over 20 years.

In December 2011, Pravin Togadia replaced Singhal as the VHP President because of the latter’s ill-health. Singhal had graduated in Metallurgical Engineering from the Benaras Hindu University Institute of Technology In 1950.

He was associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since 1942. In 1980, he became VHP’s joint secretary and in 1984 its General Secretary. Eventually, he went on to become its president.

Under his leadership, the VHP constructed 200 temples specifically for the Dalits. Singhal, the man who rejuvenated Hinduism, played a key role in Ramjanmabhoomi temple movement.

The Overseas Friends of BJP has paid its heartfelt condolences on his demise. By his dedication and service to the nation, he has inspired countless youths in India and abroad.

The OFBJP units are organizing condolences meetings across the world and would be paying rich tributes to the departed soul.
