Security upgrades could be coming to L’Anse Creuse high school buildings soon.

A discussion about adding intercoms and cameras to high schools was held during the L’Anse Creuse Board of Education’s June 18 Committee of the Whole meeting.

Currently, four of the district’s high school level buildings lack the intercoms and cameras. These include L’Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Township, L’Anse Creuse High School North in Macomb Township, the John R. Armstrong Performing Arts Center and the Frederick V. Pankow Center, both in Clinton Township while all ll elementary and middle school buildings in the district have them.

Administration requested the district’s technology department acquire quotes to bring these school entrances in line with other security measures. The project will consist of work from three different vendors administration is expected to recommend to board members Monday, including:

The buzzer type systems will be operated primarily by the person at the front desk in the commons areas of the schools.

“There will be other sites in the building where they can do this as well,” Edoff said.

Also on June 18, the board discussed the following items for potential future vote:

• Edoff will recommend at Monday’s session the board approve former L’Anse Creuse Board of Education member Kenneth Hoover and former L’Anse Creuse Middle School North principal John Da Via for district Hall of Distinction induction. The hall is located in the John R. Armstrong Performing Arts Center.

• Administration will recommend the board appoint Kristin Patrona as the associate principal of L’Anse Creuse Middle School Central in Harrison Township.

• Continue a shared services agreement between L’Anse Creuse and New Haven Community Schools. L’Anse Creuse Public Schools and New Haven Community Schools have participated in a shared services agreement since May 7, 2010. The current agreement was approved on June 19, 2017 and expires June 30. The agreement has now been revised to reflect current needs.
