The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain, is a sovereign state in the European Union. Lying off the north-western coast of the European mainland, it includes the island of "Great Britain" (a term also applied loosely to refer to the whole country), the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland and many smaller islands.Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK that shares a land border with another state—the Republic of Ireland. Apart from this land border, the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with the North Sea to its east, the English Channel to its south and the Celtic Sea to its south-southwest. The Irish Sea lies between Great Britain and Ireland. With an area of 93,800 square miles (243,000 km2), the UK is the 80th-largest sovereign state in the world and the 11th-largest in Europe. It is also is the 21st-most populous country, with an estimated 64.5 million inhabitants.
The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of governance. Its capital city is London, an important global city and financial centre with an urban population of 10,310,000, the fourth-largest in Europe and second-largest in the European Union. The current monarch—since 6 February 1952—is Queen Elizabeth II. The UK consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The latter three have devolved administrations, each with varying powers, based in their capitals, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast, respectively. The nearby Isle of Man, Bailiwick of Guernsey and Bailiwick of Jersey are not part of the United Kingdom, being Crown dependencies with the British Government responsible for defence and international representation.

In music:
"Come On Eileen" is a song by English group Dexys Midnight Runners (credited to Dexys Midnight Runners and the Emerald Express), released in the UK on 25 June 1982 as a single from their album Too-Rye-Ay. It was their second number one hit in the United Kingdom, following 1980's "Geno". The song was written by Kevin Rowland, Jim Paterson and Billy Adams; it was produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley.
"Come On Eileen" won Best British Single at the 1983 Brit Awards and in 2015 the song was voted by the British public as the nation's sixth favourite 1980s number one in a poll for ITV.
There are various versions of the song, some in addition to the main section featuring either an intro of a Celtic fiddle solo, or an a cappella coda both based on Thomas Moore's Irish folk song "Believe Me, if All Those Endearing Young Charms".
The main section begins with a Celtic-style fiddle played over a drum beat, with the bass guitar and piano providing accompaniment.
The lyrics of the song begin with the lines:
Dexys Midnight Runners (currently called Dexys) are an English pop band with soul influences, who achieved their major success in the early to mid-1980s. They are best known for their songs "Come On Eileen" and "Geno", both of which peaked at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, as well as six other top-20 singles. However, in the U.S., due to lacklustre promotion, Dexys' only hit was "Come On Eileen", which gave the band an undeserved image as "one-hit wonders".
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dexys went through numerous personnel changes over the course of three albums and thirteen singles, with only singer/songwriter/co-founder Kevin Rowland remaining in the band through all of the transitions and only Rowland and "Big" Jim Paterson (trombone) appearing on all of the albums. The band broke up in 1987, with Rowland becoming a solo artist. Dexys was reformed by Rowland in the 2000s, with a few members from the band's original lineups re-joining, including Paterson. In 2012 the band released their fourth album.
Midnight is the transition time period from one day to the next: the moment when the date changes. In ancient Roman timekeeping, midnight was halfway between sunset and sunrise, varying according to the seasons.
Solar midnight is the time opposite of solar noon, when the sun is closest to nadir and the night is equidistant from dusk and dawn. Due to the advent of time zones, which make time identical across a range of meridians, and daylight saving time, it rarely coincides with midnight on a clock. Solar midnight is dependent on longitude and time of the year rather than on a time zone.
In the northern hemisphere, "midnight" had an ancient geographic association with "north" (as did "noon" with "south" – see noon). Modern Polish preserves this association with its word for "midnight" ("północ – literally "half-night"), which also means "north".
Midnight marks the beginning and ending of each day in civil time throughout the world. It is the dividing point between one day and another. With 12-hour time notation, authorities recommend avoiding confusion between noon and midnight by using "midnight", "12 midnight", "12 mi", or "12:00 midnight."
(1982) Dexy's Midnight Runners are a British New Wave and Northern Soul band who achieved their major success in the early-mid 1980s. Kevin Rowland (vocals, guitar) and Kevin 'Al' Archer (vocals, guitar) founded the band in 1978 in Birmingham, England, naming the band after Dexedrine, a recreational drug popular amongst Northern Soul fans at the time. Big Jim Paterson (trombone), Geoff 'JB' Blythe (saxophone), Steve 'Babyface' Spooner (alto saxophone), Pete Saunders (keyboard), Pete Williams (bass) and Bobby 'Jnr' Ward(drums) formed the first line-up of the band to record a single, 'Dance Stance' (1979). The song only reached number 40 in the British charts, but the next single, 'Geno' -- about Geno Washington -- (featuring new recruits, Andy Leek (keyboards) and Andy 'Stoker' Growcott (dr...

Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen (Original Promo Restored) (1982) (HD).. Why another upload you might ask, well as there are numerous versions of this video on the internet with varying lengths (anything from 3 minutes 30 seconds to 4 minutes 15) but not one of them contains all the clips/ scenes from the original video and the shorter ones have verses/ choruses missing that were on the original single... All of the longer versions that have the full original audio track strangely enough have been edited to remove the scene where the camera pans up the derelict building to reveal various band members sitting on window ledges and has been replaced by a looped/ repeated scene that isn't even in sync to the song... So here it is, the original full length promo video with the cut sce...

Now, he is nothing more then a homeless man telling his story to anyone who will listen. ---------------- Cast: Joe Rosati - Narrator / Brian Sanders Scott C. A look at the pressures on the British rail-network.
Hey guys! The Soil Association asked if I'd be up for sharing why I'm a big fan of choosing organic textiles, from fashion to bedding and homewares. As many of you know, I'm big into choosing organic food, organic beauty and organic fashion. I wanted to delve a little more into why choosing organic materials matters, and got the chance to interview some amazing people who have seen the benefits of choosing organic cottoned first hand and who are driving change - and I wanted to share these with you! This is NOT a sponsored video. My travel costs were covered by the Soil Association - thanks to them for helping me arrange some of the interviews. I am an ambassador for them, which is an unpaid role and one I do out of sheer passion for choosing organic. Here's a little sustainable s...

Hello everyone, Another video for today, again from 1994. These are the 13th, 14th and 15th concerts of the 1994 US Fall Tour, and the 84th to 86th of the year. The tapes come from LB-4184 for the first night (a complete audience stereo recording), LB-8904 for the second night and LB-8918 for the third and last night. The two last shows are from the incredible bootleg Positively West 52nd Street and are soundboard recordings. Certainly the best show of 1994 and one must-have for Dylan fans. The band is on fire and Bob with his acoustic guitar delivers a heart-wrenching performance. The sound is pristine thanks to this amazing soundboard (there's only a glitch on the first track of the second night, so I added a complete version instead with the original one as a bonus). The set is filled...
There's a gang I've just joined
There's a gang I've just joined
Three million strong you'd agree
Four million strong you'd agree
Enrollment was easy, so easy
Getting out proves to be the difficulty
From land's end to john o'groats
From land's end to john o'groats
They are making ends meet
Mending holes in their coat
Fasting and feasting on bread and margarine
Burning dreams build upon buried hopes
United kingdom - you'd better ring them
You've a solution - you better bring them
United kingdom - united kingdom
You've a solution - you better bring them
Opportunity, I guess they all came and went
Finding it hard
Finding the rent you'll find it funny
With your finger running down
Situations vacant
In school he was an athlete
Now he's not so self-assured
"after all of these o-levels is this my reward? "
There's a silent majority, that's seen and
Never heard from charles i, charles ii
To charles iii
United kingdom - you'd better ring them
You've a solution - you better bring them
United kingdom - united kingdom
This busted, rusted, upper-crusted
Bankrupted done and dusted
No-man-to-be-trusted united kingdom
Proud to stand beneath the union jack?
Happy dealing up a no ace pack?
Polishing black boots
Priming the riot squad
There go I but for the grace of god
Covering up the agony with mindless entertainment
You'll be happy when they're ripping up the pavement
Bringing down the axe on steelworks and foundries
Someone said love knows no boundaries
Close your eyes and think of england
Lie back and think of her
United kingdom - you better ring them
