SIMPLE FLOWER BED A flower, sometimes known as a bloom or blossom, is the reproductive structure found in flowering plants (plants of the division Magnoliophyta, also called angiosperms). The biological function of a flower is to effect reproduction, usually by providing a mechanism for the union of sperm with eggs. Flowers may facilitate outcrossing (fusion of sperm and eggs from different individuals in a population) or allow selfing (fusion of sperm and egg from the same flower). Some flowers produce diaspores without fertilization (parthenocarpy). Flowers contain sporangia and are the site where gametophytes develop. Flowers give rise to fruit and seeds. Many flowers have evolved to be attractive to animals, so as to cause them to be vectors for the transfer of pollen. In addition to facilitating the reproduction of flowering plants, flowers have long been admired and used by humans to beautify their environment, and also as objects of romance, ritual, religion, medicine and as a source of food. L'asparago possiede particolari proprietà diuretiche, viene apprezzato dai buongustai e ha alle spalle una storia millenaria. È una specie dioica che porta cioè fiori maschili e femminili su piante diverse: i frutti (prodotti dalle piante femminili) sono piccole bacche rosse contenenti semi neri. La pianta è dotata di rizomi fusti modificati che crescono sotto terra formando un reticolo; da essi si dipartono i turioni ovvero la parte epigea e commestibile della pianta. Nel caso di coltura forzata il turione si presenta di colore bianco mentre in pieno campo a causa della fotosintesi clorofilliana assume una colorazione verde. Se non vengono raccolti per il consumo dai turioni si dipartono gambi di lunghezza variabile da 1 a 1,5 m; tali gambi vanno raccolti quando ancora essi non hanno raggiunto una dura consistenza. Le foglie (cladòdi) di questa pianta sono minute e riunite in fascetti di 3-6. Diversamente da molte verdure, dove i germogli più piccoli e fini sono anche più teneri, gli steli più grossi dell'asparago hanno una maggiore polpa rispetto allo spessore della pelle, risultando quindi più teneri.
