Small business support helps women in rural Azerbaijan to change their lives and transform their communities
In Masalli, the lack of opportunities for women to make the most of their marketable skills was addressed head-on by a USAID and UNDP funded project helping women to gain the business skills and assistance they need to start up their own business ventures. Implemented by UNDP, in collaboration with the State Committee for Family, Women and Children’s Affairs, the project provides training workshops on how to turn business ideas into start-ups and how to expand existing businesses.
Read this inspirational story of three women who had never before imagined themselves in business untill one day they established businesses of their own.

Our joint partnership project with the European Union on ‘Enabling civil society to play a greater role in advancing gender equality and women rights’ was nominated to be showcased at this year’s edition of the European Development Days #EDD18 and was the only project representing Azerbaijan at this high-level event on 5-6 June 2018 in Brussels, Belgium. Often referred to as the ‘Davos of Development’, this prominent international forum is organised by the European Commission in the quest to bring the development community together and offer a hands-on platform for knowledge sharing and exploring partnership opportunities and innovative solutions to global development challenges. This year, EDD featured an overarching theme of 'Women and Girls at the Forefront of Sustainable Development: protect, empower, invest'. Leyla Fathi from UNDP Azerbaijan was representing the project at EDD, under the 'Women/Girls and Economy' category. #SheisWe #shEDDs Global
