Interesting from Grieve: "The Union is m.more important than the terms of Brexit." IRL is "biggest loser from Brexit apart from possibly the UK itself" Internal UK border is "inescapable logic of the EU’s position" unless UK gov changes re: future rel'ship w/ EU "in its totality"

NI Sec of State to meet Barnier & MEPs in Brussels today. "we will ensure that our departure from the EU does not do anything to set back the historic progress we have made in NI over the past 20 years & that the Belfast Agmt is protected in all its parts"

If (no deal,no deal), we will not set up customs checks (we couldn't in any case no prep and totally ineffective unless we reduce "approved" crossings) we'd sit out the initial chaos re NI instead concentrating on GB direct imports and ensuring business is compliant off-border.

2 yrs after Ref & we still don't know how border lives will be impacted! Not just border dwellers, but all in NI & beyond.  British, Irish, EU citizens currently enjoy equal rights. Will they diverge (in conflict with )? has a Brexit headache!

Delighted to discuss & matters in (literally) high places in DC! I came away convinced of sustained, protective interest re: peace process. The UK's friends abroad are v.aware of what is at stake for NI in Brexit. Thank you so much for facilitating this

+ as for the statement (for respondents to agree/disagree with) on technological solutions -- "Modern technology would allow any customs checks to be done quickly and easily, so a border would not be damaging or disruptive" -- What purpose/value does this have in an opinion poll?

I can't help but say, tho, that the phrasing of some of the Qs asked is unfortunate, e.g. on possible 'different status' of NI (ref. customs checks in sea ports) or a hard border risking paramilitary attacks. This serves to *perpetuate* distortions of sensitive & nuanced matters.
