Pluperfect

The pluperfect is a type of verb form, traditionally treated as one of the tenses of certain languages, used in referring to something that occurred earlier than the time being considered, when the time being considered is already in the past. The meaning of the pluperfect is equivalent to that of English verb forms such as "(we) had arrived" or "(they) had written".

The word derives from the Latin plus quam perfectum, "more than perfect" – the Latin perfect refers to something that occurred in the past, while the pluperfect refers to something that occurred "more" (further) in the past than the perfect.

In English grammar, the equivalent of the pluperfect (a form such as "had written") is now often called the past perfect, since it combines past tense with perfect aspect. (The same term is sometimes used in relation to the grammar of other languages.) English also has a past perfect progressive (or past perfect continuous) form: "had been writing".

Meaning of the pluperfect

The pluperfect is traditionally described as a tense; in modern linguistic terminology it may be said to combine tense with grammatical aspect; namely past tense (reference to past time) and perfect aspect (state of being completed). It is used to refer to an occurrence that was already in the past (completed) at a past time.

The Submarines

The Submarines are an American indie rock band from Los Angeles, California, United States.

Band history

Working as solo artists in Boston, the two members of the band, John Dragonetti and Blake Hazard, were introduced through a mutual friend, Joe Klompus. Dragonetti and Hazard formed a romantic and musical partnership, then took their show to Europe. The relationship lasted for four years, but ended in the fall of 2004 when the pair moved to L.A. After the break-up, both Hazard and Dragonetti continued writing songs, and because Hazard still recorded her music in Dragonetti's home studio, the pair quickly discovered the songs they had written were about each other and their sadness in having broken up. They decided to work on a few songs together and eventually got back together. The new songs were mastered for the couple as a wedding present, and those tracks eventually became their first album. Hazard has said of the relationship, "It’s hard, definitely hard. Luckily we are like-minded aesthetically and musically." Declare a New State!, The Submarines' first album was released in 2006 on the Nettwerk label.

Glenn Miller

Alton Glenn Miller (March 1, 1904 – missing in action December 15, 1944) was an American big band musician, arranger, composer, and bandleader in the swing era. He was the best-selling recording artist from 1939 to 1943, leading one of the best known big bands. Miller's recordings include "In the Mood", "Moonlight Serenade", "Pennsylvania 6-5000", "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "A String of Pearls", "At Last", "(I've Got a Gal In) Kalamazoo", "American Patrol", "Tuxedo Junction", "Elmer's Tune", and "Little Brown Jug". While he was traveling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War II, Glenn Miller's aircraft disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel.

Early life and career

Miller was born in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Mattie Lou (née Cavender) and Lewis Elmer Miller. He attended grade school in North Platte in western Nebraska. In 1915, Miller's family moved to Grant City, Missouri. Around this time, Miller had finally made enough money from milking cows to buy his first trombone and played in the town orchestra. Originally, Miller played cornet and mandolin, but he switched to trombone by 1916. In 1918, the Miller family moved again, this time to Fort Morgan, Colorado, where Miller went to high school. In the fall of 1919, he joined the high school football team, Maroons, which won the Northern Colorado Football Conference in 1920. He was named the Best Left End in Colorado. During his senior year, Miller became very interested in a new style of music called "dance band music". He was so taken with it that he formed his own band with some classmates. By the time Miller graduated from high school in 1921, he had decided to become a professional musician.

Το πρώτο ισχυρό ΟΧΙ που είπαν οι Έλληνες στρατιώτες των φυλακίων της ελληνοαλβανικής μεθορίου και τις άγνωστες μάχες τους, παρουσιάζει η « Μηχανή του χρόνου ». Ο Χρίστος Βασιλόπουλος βρέθηκε στην ελληνοαλβανική μεθόριο και κατέγραψε ιστορίες του άγνωστου στρατιώτη, που αντιμετώπισε με επιτυχία την εισβολή του πανίσχυρου ιταλικού στρατού. Εντόπισε τα εγκαταλελειμμένα φυλάκια όπου δόθηκαν οι φονικές μάχες στο ξημέρωμα της 28ης Οκτωβρίου και στη συνέχεια αναζήτησε τους πρωταγωνιστές των μαχών. Με μαρτυρίες βετεράνων του ’40 και αφηγήσεις στρατιωτικών, ιστορικών και ερευνητών, η εκπομπή καταγράφει την πρώτη φορά που Έλληνες και Ιταλοί ήρθαν πρόσωπο με πρόσωπο, τη μάχη όπου βγήκαν οι ξιφολόγχες, τις παγίδες του ελληνικού στρατού, τις κινήσεις των στρατηγών και των αξιωματικών του μετώπου, τις καθοριστικές νίκες και την παράδοση των όπλων μετά τη συνθηκολόγηση με τους ναζί. Η « Μηχανή του χρόνου » παρουσιάζει επίσης, τις δύσκολες καιρικές συνθήκες του χειμώνα του 1940 που οδήγησαν πολλούς στρατιώτες στον ακρωτηριασμό και τους βομβαρδισμούς των Ιταλών σε πόλεις της Ελλάδας που άφησαν πίσω τους πολλούς άμαχους νεκρούς. Στην εκπομπή μιλούν οι ερευνητές Μαρία Πετράκη, Απόστολος Μπρέντας, Κωνσταντίνος Παπαδημητρίου, ο υποστράτηγος ε.α Δημήτριος Γεδεών, ο αντισυνταγματάρχης Αργύρης Καταραχιάς, ο συνταγματάρχης ε.α Αθανάσιος Λάκκας καθώς και οι ιστορικοί Ελένη Δημητρίου, Giorgio Rizzo, Κώστας Λαγός, Νίκος Γιαννόπουλος και Τάσος Σακελλαρόπουλος. Παρουσίαση: Χρίστος Βασιλόπουλος ► Η ιταλική επιθετικότητα δεν βρήκε την Ελλάδα απροετοίμαστη. Ο Ιωάννης Μεταξάς είχε ήδη από το 1936 φροντίσει για τη στρατιωτική προετοιμασία της χώρας. Έτσι, διπλασίασε τις πολεμικές δαπάνες, μερίμνησε για τη δημιουργία αξιόπιστου πυροβολικού και εκπόνησε σχέδια μάχης για ενδεχόμενες επιθέσεις από τη Βουλγαρία και αργότερα από την Ιταλία. Το 1939 ξέσπασε ο Β' Παγκόσμιος Πόλεμος, όταν ο γερμανικός στρατός εισέβαλε στη γειτονική Πολωνία, που την ασφάλειά της είχε εγγυηθεί η Αγγλία. Πολλές χώρες της Ευρώπης, με πρώτες την Αγγλία και τη Γαλλία, κήρυξαν πόλεμο στις δυνάμεις του Άξονα, σχηματίζοντας τη δική τους συμμαχία. Ο πόλεμος γρήγορα επεκτάθηκε κι έγινε παγκόσμιος. Με τον Άξονα συμμάχησε η Ιαπωνία, ενώ με τους Συμμάχους συντάχθηκε η Ρωσία και κατόπιν οι ΗΠΑ. Η Ελλάδα μπήκε στον πόλεμο τον Οκτώβριο του 1940. Είχαν προηγηθεί εχθρικές ιταλικές ενέργειες, με σοβαρότερη τον τορπιλισμό του καταδρομικού « Έλλη » από ιταλικό υποβρύχιο, τον Δεκαπενταύγουστο του 1940, στο λιμάνι της Τήνου. Δυόμισι μήνες αργότερα, χαράματα της 28ης Οκτωβρίου, ο Ιταλός πρέσβης στην Αθήνα Γκράτσι επέδωσε στον Μεταξά τελεσίγραφο ζητώντας την παράδοση της χώρας. Η άρνηση του Μεταξά εξ ονόματος όλων των Ελλήνων σήμανε την αρχή του πολέμου. Λίγο αργότερα ιταλικά στρατεύματα εισέβαλαν από τα ελληνοαλβανικά σύνορα, με σκοπό να καταλάβουν αρχικά την Ήπειρο. Ταυτόχρονα μία ομάδα Αλπινιστών διείσδυσε στη Βόρεια Πίνδο για να χτυπήσει στα νώτα τους οχυρωμένους Έλληνες και να εμποδίσει την άφιξη ενισχύσεων από τη Θεσσαλία. Όμως ο ελληνικός στρατός αμύνθηκε με επιτυχία, ενώ οι Ιταλοί Αλπινιστές εξουδετερώθηκαν στις χιονισμένες χαράδρες του Σμόλικα. Στα μέσα Νοεμβρίου του 1940 οι Έλληνες στρατιώτες αντεπιτέθηκαν, αναγκάζοντας τους Ιταλούς να αποσυρθούν στο εσωτερικό της Αλβανίας και πετυχαίνοντας σημαντικές νίκες, μπήκαν στη Βόρεια Ήπειρο, αλλά η περαιτέρω προώθησή τους ήταν πολύ δύσκολη. Λόγω του ορεινού εδάφους και του βαρύτατου χειμώνα, τα κρυοπαγήματα ήταν περισσότερα από τις απώλειες της μάχης, ενώ η μεταφορά τροφίμων και πυρομαχικών δυσκόλευε όσο τα στρατεύματα απομακρύνονταν από τα ελληνικά σύνορα. Η επιχείρηση της Ιταλίας στο μέτωπο της Αλβανίας είχε αποτύχει χάρη στο ελληνικό «ΟΧΙ», την άρνηση ενός ολόκληρου λαού να υποταγεί στις επιθυμίες των ισχυρών και να χάσει τη λευτεριά του. ♦ Οι πηγές αφηγούνται... ♦ Ημερήσια Διαταγή του Διοικητή του Αποσπάσματος Πίνδου Συνταγματάρχη Κωνσταντίνου Δαβάκη προς τους αξιωματικούς του (3 Σεπτεμβρίου 1940) «Ο Λεωνίδας εις τας Θερμοπύλας, ο Διάκος στην Αλαμάνα είναι ηρωισμοί άφθαστοι, που σπανίως η ιστορία έχει να παρουσιάσει. Εμπνευστήτε λοιπόν από το δίκαιον (;) της αποστολής μας, από την ιστορίαν μας και εμπνεύσατε και τους στρατιώτας σας. Καθένας από σας να πεισθή βαθέως ότι από αυτόν και μόνον εξαρτάται η επιτυχία. Και έαν όλοι από των Διοικήσεων μέχρι του τελευταίου Ημιονηγού ούτω σκεφθώσι και αναλόγως πράξωσι, η επιτυχία είναι εξησφαλισμένη. Μη σας τρομάζη η τυχόν υλική υπεροχή του αντιπάλου. Τον υλικόν αξίζει όσον και οι άνδρες που το χειρίζονται. Και ξέρετε πολύ καλά τι είδος άνδρες θα χειρισθούν το υλικό του αντιπάλου. Οι Επαναστάται του '21 με ξύλα και δρεπάνια αντιμετώπισαν Στρατόν της εποχής επιστημονικώς οπλισμένον χάρις εις το εξυψωμένον ηθικόν των... Η Επέτειος του ΟΧΙ μνημονεύει την άρνηση της Ελλάδας στις ιταλικές αξιώσεις που περιείχε το τελεσίγραφο που επιδόθηκε στις 28 Οκτωβρίου του 1940 στον Έλληνα Δικτάτορα που έφερε τίτλο Πρωθυπουργού, Ιωάννη Μεταξά. https://www.paypal.me/zora2017/1 Συνέπεια της άρνησης αυτής ήταν η είσοδος της Χώρας στο Β΄ Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο και η έναρξη του Ελληνοϊταλικού πολέμου του 1940. Η ημερομηνία αυτή καθιερώθηκε να εορτάζεται στην Ελλάδα κάθε χρόνο ως επίσημη εθνική εορτή και αργία.Τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες στις 28 Οκτωβρίου του 1940 η τότε Ιταλική Κυβέρνηση απέστειλε στην Ελλάδα τελεσίγραφο, δια του Ιταλού Πρέσβη στην Αθήνα Εμανουέλε Γκράτσι, ο οποίος και το επέδωσε ιδιόχειρα στον Ιωάννη Μεταξά, στην οικία του δεύτερου, στην Κηφισιά, με το οποίο και απαιτούσε την ελεύθερη διέλευση του Ιταλικού στρατού από την Ελληνοαλβανική μεθόριο προκειμένου στη συνέχεια να καταλάβει κάποια στρατηγικά σημεία του Βασιλείου της Ελλάδος, (λιμένες, αεροδρόμια κλπ.), για ανάγκες ανεφοδιασμού και άλλων διευκολύνσεών του, στη μετέπειτα προώθησή του στην Αφρική. Μετά την ανάγνωση του κειμένου ο Μεταξάς έστρεψε το βλέμμα του στον Ιταλό Πρέσβη και του απάντησε στα γαλλικά (επίσημη διπλωματική γλώσσα) την ιστορική φράση: «Alors, c'est la guerre», (προφέρεται από τα γαλλικά, αλόρ, σε λα γκερ, δηλαδή, Λοιπόν, αυτό σημαίνει πόλεμο), εκδηλώνοντας έτσι την αρνητική θέση επί των ιταμών ιταλικών αιτημάτων. O ίδιος ο Γκράτσι στα απομνημονεύματά του, που εξέδωσε το 1945, περιγράφει τη σκηνή: «Έχω εντολή κ. πρωθυπουργέ να σας κάνω μία ανακοίνωση και του έδωσα το έγγραφο. Παρακολούθησα την συγκίνηση εις τα χέρια και εις τα μάτια του. Με σταθερή φωνή και βλέποντάς με κατάματα ο Μεταξάς μου είπε: αυτό σημαίνει πόλεμο. Του απήντησα ότι αυτό θα μπορούσε να αποφευχθεί. Μου απήντησε ΟΧΙ. Του πρόσθεσα ότι αν ο στρατηγός Παπάγος..., ο Μεταξάς με διέκοψε και μου είπε: ΟΧΙ! Έφυγα υποκλινόμενος με τον βαθύτερο σεβασμό, προ του γέροντος αυτού, που προτίμησε την θυσία αντί της υποδουλώσεως». Ο Μεταξάς εκείνη τη στιγμή είχε εκφράσει το ελληνικό λαϊκό συναίσθημα, την άρνηση της υποταγής, και αυτή η άρνηση πέρασε στον τότε ελληνικό δημοσιογραφικό τύπο με την λέξη «ΟΧΙ». Σημειώνεται πως αυτούσια η λέξη «ΟΧΙ» παρουσιάσθηκε για πρώτη φορά ως τίτλος στο κύριο άρθρο της εφημερίδας «Ελληνικό Μέλλον» του Ν. Π. Ευστρατίου στις 30 Οκτωβρίου του 1940. Δύο ώρες μετά την παραπάνω επίδοση, ξεκίνησε ο Ελληνοϊταλικός Πόλεμος με εισβολή των ιταλικών στρατευμάτων στην Ήπειρο, οπότε η Ελλάδα αμυνόμενη ενεπλάκη στον πόλεμο.αφή

This series, broadcast in Britain in 2000, covers the fateful year of 1940 when British independence hung by a thread. From the evacuation of Dunkirk to victory in the Battle of Britain, the series contains some superb archive footage and - most of all - some wonderful interviews with people who were there, both on the fighting front, at home, and even in government. The film quality in some places is a little fuzzy, probably because it was uploaded from an old VHS, but it's worth sticking with in my opinion. Uploaded for educational purposes only. Instead, it features a vintage piece of test equipment that uses a vacuum tube circuit to precisely measure rotational speed.....and to stop motion. We will get a close-up view of the outside, with controls, the interior components, and evaluate the circuit via a schematic that has many similarities to a vintage tube amplifier. In addition, we will calibrate the unit and then use it to perform three different speed measurements and observe the very unusual optical illusions possible with such a strobe device. Ο δικτάτορας Μεταξάς είπε το ηρωικό ΟΧΙ, ο μετέπειτα πρωθυπουργός της Ελλάδας Αλέξανδρος Κορυζής αυτοκτόνησε αρνούμενος να παραδώσει την χώρα στους κατακτητές, σήμερα -74 χρόνια μετά- οι δημοκράτες (...) Σαμαράς - Βενιζέλος παραδίδουν την χώρα μας λέγοντας ΝΑΙ ΣΕ ΟΛΑ και υπογράφοντας συμφωνίες που ΑΜΕΤΑΚΛΗΤΑ ΚΑΙ ΑΝΕΥ ΟΡΩΝ (EFSF 14,5) παραδίδουν την εθνική μας κυριαρχία καθώς και την δημόσια και ιδιωτική περιουσία των Ελλήνων... Κάτι ανάλογο έκανε και ο Τσολάκογλου... Σήμερα στα σχολικά βιβλία οι μαθητές μας διδάσκονται πως οι Έλληνες κρύφτηκαν όταν ξέσπασε ο πόλεμος (!!!) δεχόμενοι απίστευτη προπαγάνδα απ'τα ανθελληνικά μιάσματα που διαχειρίζονται τις τύχες του δήθεν Υπ. Παιδείας.. Μέγιστος σκοπός τους ο πλήρης αφελληνισμός και καταρράκωση του φρονίματος των Ελλήνων.. Προς αποκατάσταση της ιστορικής αλήθειας, ο ο Μανώλης Γλέζος κατέβασε τη γερμανική σημαία απ'την Ακρόπολη (μαζί με τον Σάντα) ως μέλος της Εθνικής Οργάνωσης Νεολαίας (ΕΟΝ) του Μεταξά, άσχετα αν σήμερα εξαργυρώνει τη γεναιότητά του (σε αντίθεση με τον Σάντα), ως κομμουνιστής/συριζαίος.. Το κόμμα του μάλιστα είναι αντίθετο προς τις παρελάσεις που τιμούν όσους θυσιάστηκαν για να είμαστε εμείς ελεύθεροι αλλά σύσσωμο τάσεται υπέρ στα gay parades... Όπως όλα δείχνουν, η Ελλάς πρόκειται να ζήσει ένα νέο 1940. Απο εμάς εξαρτάται να ελευθερώσουμε την πατρίδα μας απ'τους σύγχρονους ξένους και ντόπιους κατακτητές.
