The Danelaw (also known as the Danelagh; Old English: Dena lagu;Danish: Danelagen), as recorded in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, is a historical name given to the part of England in which the laws of the Danes held sway and dominated those of the Anglo-Saxons. Danelaw contrasts West Saxon law and Mercian law.
Modern historians have extended the term to a geographical designation. The areas that constituted the Danelaw lie in northern and eastern England.
The Danelaw originated from the Viking expansion of the ninth century AD, although the term was not used to describe a geographic area until the 11th century AD. With the increase in population and productivity in Scandinavia, Viking warriors, having sought treasure and glory in the nearby British Isles, "proceeded to plough and support themselves", in the words of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle for the year 876.
Danelaw can describe the set of legal terms and definitions created in the treaties between the West-Saxon king, Alfred the Great, and the Danish warlord, Guthrum, written following Guthrum's defeat at the Battle of Edington in 878. In 886 the Treaty of Alfred and Guthrum was formalised, defining the boundaries of their kingdoms, with provisions for peaceful relations between the English and the Vikings. The language spoken in England was also affected by this clash of cultures with the emergence of Anglo-Norse dialects.
Total war is warfare that includes any and all civilian-associated resources and infrastructure as legitimate military targets, and typically involves the use of weapons and tactics that result in significant civilian or other non-combatant casualties, whether collateral damage or not. American-English Dictionary defines "total war" as "war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war are disregarded." The term can also be applied when the war effort requires significant sacrifices by most of the friendly civilian population.
In the mid-19th century, scholars identified "total war" as a separate class of warfare. In a total war, to an extent inapplicable to less total conflicts, the differentiation between combatants and non-combatants diminishes and even sometimes vanishes entirely as opposing sides can consider nearly every human resource, even that of non-combatants, as nevertheless part of the war effort.
Europa Universalis is a grand strategy video game released on February 20, 2001 by Paradox Development Studio and distributed in North America by Strategy First. Originally based on a French board game of the same name by Philippe Thibaut, Europa Universalis lets the player take control of one of seven European nations (others are available in different scenarios) from 1492 to 1792, expanding its power through military might, diplomacy, and colonial wealth. The game takes place on a map divided into approximately 1,500 provinces, and proceeds in a pausable real time format. The lead game programmer was Johan Andersson and the lead designer was Philippe Thibaut.
The game became a surprise hit for its great deal of depth and strategy. Paradox used this sudden success to springboard other titles such as Victoria, Crusader Kings, and Hearts of Iron.
Europa Universalis was followed by Europa Universalis II, Europa Universalis III, Europa Universalis: Rome and Europa Universalis IV
Europa Universalis IV is a grand strategy video game in the Europa Universalis series, developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. The game was released on 13 August 2013.
In the game, players control a nation during the Late Middle Ages until the Early Modern Period (1444 to 1821), conducting trade, diplomacy, colonization, and warfare.
The game itself is an interactive map of Earth divided into the provinces that compose of nations. Each of these provinces contributes to their country either positively or negatively, as provinces can both provide resources to a nation and serve as a point of unrest and rebellion. The gameplay requires the player to lead a nation by finding a balance of military, diplomacy, and economy. The player does so through their choices as sovereign of their nation, and through the spending of resources available to them: Prestige, Stability, Gold, Manpower, and Monarch Points (Administrative, Diplomatic, Military).

The only remaining kingdoms is Wessex. 1000's of Danes have sailed down to the south coast of England hoping to have an easy conquest. In which John Green teaches you about Vikings! That's right, one of our most requested subjects, the Vikings, right here on Crash Course. So what's the deal with Vikings? Well, the stuff you've heard about them may not be true. The Vikings weren't just pagan raiders striking terror into the hearts of defenseless European Christendom. They were some of the greatest travelers of their time, and they weren't always traveling to steal. In a lot of cases, they were traveling to trade. John will teach you about Viking trade goods, Norse Mythology, and yes, there will be blood, guts, and dragons. OK? BBC The Viking Sagas Hundreds of years ago in faraway Iceland the Vikings began to write down dozens of stories called sagas - sweeping narratives based on real people and real events. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0110gnv I do not own any rights to this but I do feel the need to share it with the people that likes history of Iceland, since this (and similar) is hard to find and never on tv. http://www.janinaramirez.co.uk/
I had had trouble finding this documentary online, and finally found it. I in no way own the rights to this interesting documentary. Ivar Ragnarsson (Old Norse: Īvarr; died possibly 873[1]). Ivar the Boneless: THE STRANGEST OF VIKINGS (VIKING HISTORY DOCUMENTARY) Ivar the Boneless was a Viking leader and a commander of the Great Heathen Army which invaded the . Ragnar Lodbrok or Lothbrok was a legendary Norse ruler and hero from the Viking Age described in Old Norse poetry and several sagas.

The 1.19 patch, also known as the Denmark patch, was just released. What better way to celebrate than to explore some of the new 1.19 events for Denmark? The goal of this let's play campaign in Europa Universalis IV Rights of Man is to snag the achievement “The Iron Price.” This requires us to own the Danelaw region of England and to convert the culture to Danish. We may be doing something really dirty, like declaring a no CB war to get this done, or we may find a more reasonable way of getting there. In any case, it should be a blast! Thank you so much for watching! I truly appreciate yo...

Oh, you poor, broke, mixed up mess of a heart
You let a little bitty man go and tear you all apart
I warned you a thousand times
You wouldn't listen, paid me no mind
You poor, broke, mixed up mess of a heart
I watched him buy his ticket in Charlotte, North Carolina
I heard him say, "One way, please to Denver"
He's goin' to meet that other girl
Won't do us no good to cry
'Cause she's wearin' his ring on her finger
Oh, you poor, broke, mixed up mess of a heart
You let a little bitty man go and tear you all apart
I warned you a thousand times
You wouldn't listen, paid me no mind
You poor, broke, mixed up mess of a heart
I watched him tip the porter
As he stepped aboard that midnight train
Bound to take him far away forever
I watched the tail light fade away
Knowin' he was gone to stay
I just wish this broken heart was with him
Oh, you poor, broke, mixed up mess of a heart
You let a little bitty man go and tear you all apart
I warned you a thousand times
You wouldn't listen, paid me no mind
You poor, broke, mixed up mess of a heart
Oh, you poor, broke, mixed up mess of a heart
