The Rockmelons Feat. Doug Williams – Love’s Gonna Bring You Home (Promo & 12″)

rocked

Aussie Garage House from 1999 and this release by production group Rockmelons (a band that had gone into production) helped with the added vocals of adopted Aussie, Doug Williams. Smooth, summery vibes with some great synth solos. Mixes by Bobby D’Ambrosio and Eric Kupper make this a classy cut. The Bonus is the addition of an Eric Kupper dub that builds and builds, the remix on here.

Red Flag – Count To Three (US 12″)

count

Synthpop from Red Flag from 1990, still treading the classic synthpop formula of strong melodies and retro synth sounds, sounding it was recorded in the early 80’s. Taking an early Pet Shop Boys bassline and swooping Harold Faltermeyer lead synths. Six quite varied mixes with that man, Danny Tenagali gets involved in 3 remixes (tracks 1, 4 and 5) putting some commercial house sounds as well as some very sharp stereo effects on these minimal sounding tracks. Razormaid (Art Mararg and Joseph Watt) speed it up and give it a Hi NRG feel.

Bonus track is a Razormaid remix of an earlier album track, “Give Me Your Hand” less poppy and very PSB influenced with its dramatic orchestral sweeps. Has a very sudden ending!

Fra Lippo Lippi – Selected Maxi Singles & Rare Cuts

Breaking into the 1990’s but mostly to do with their 80’s Output.

“Everytime I See You” was a 1986 track produced by Dave Allen and from the album “Songs” this is quicker and slightly lighter in tone.

Next is their big, breakthrough HIT “Shouldn’t Have To Be Like” Again the single version. It reminds me of The The in places.  Piano V Saxophone and an infectious chorus.

Next song is the very electronic, 1990 track, “Mother’s Little Soldier” and the first of the tracks to get a proper Extended version. Again I’m getting a very similar vibe to Red Box with clarinet enjoying an airing on the remix by Bernard Löhr and Johan Ekelund.

The old track,”Every Time I See You” from 1986 gets a bit of a revamp from a 1996 CD compilation called “The Spiral Tribe Collection Vol II” which seems to be only released in the Philippines, one of the countries the band had a Cult following in.

Another oldie track gets some added beats. “Beauty And The Madness” from the ’87 album “Light And Shade” gets a shuffle beat remix by DJ Beat. This appeared on another Philippines compilation called “New Wave Jam 2000 Megamixxx” from the year 2000 (obviously!)

Nitzer Ebb ‎– Body Rework DJ Promo + megamix and bonus tracks (CD)

ebbed

Need to get this up and out. (Thanks Winx for sharing!)

So three mp3’s containing a twelve minute megamix (some people love a megamix!) from the CD Technopolis – Vol. IV. Mostly of their very early, EBM stuff and not half bad. Seems it was recorded from vinyl then put on this Bootleg series of CD’s released back in 1992.

The second mp3 is a seven minute 2001 remix of “Join In The Chant” by WFX (Jason Webster) which may already be up here but here it in this pile of 3. Brighting up the beats and polishing up the classic for the 21st Century.

The main “body of work” is the rare DJ Promo CDR of the mixes that appeared around the release of the compilation “Body Of Work” back in 2006. Remixed by some of the big electronic artists of the early noughties. (Dubfire, XPress 2, Black Strobe, The Hacker and Motor – all on their game) The remixes do their job paying homage to the original track whilst jazzing them up for the discerning dancefloor.

Tagged on the end is a couple of covers by tribute band Muscle & Hate of “Join In The Chant” from 2006.

Apologies for the Big File.

Chris & Cosey ‎– Synaesthesia (US 12″)

Currently going for a cool £26 on discogs this rare 12″ single from the album and was released in 1991. It comes with a couple of splendid Daniel Miller remixes. One of the more accessible of the Chris And Cosey tracks, I’d like to classify it as New Age Hippy Dance with Cosy Fan Tutti stoner vocals over the top (their is an instruemental!) Prefer their remix over the album track too.

Sarah McLachlan ‎– Possession (US Promo 12″)

Like a dance-orientated version of the Cocteau Twins, McLachlan is from the same place as my two Uncles were when they emigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada (now sadly passed away 😦 ) Emotional lyrics with a folky vocals over a progressive House soundtrack provided by remixes by US Remix crew, Rabbit In The Moon adding some Space Age effects on the dub.

The B-side “Fear”is just as good, hypnotic beats on the “Dance Mix” and a Trip Hop vibe to the Downtempo mix.

Bardeux ‎– Shangri-La (US 12″)

shannnng

US Pop duo Bardeux give it a bit of a Bananarama vibe with this Pop House track from 1990. The group were made up of Stacy “Acacia” Smith and Melanie Taylor and this was the title track off their second and last album. Elements of Madonna’s “Vogue” and deeper NYC grooves are all over this production from Jon St. James and Michael Eckart with a couple of mixes by a youthful Danny Tenaglia (A2 and B1) and a mix by Carl Segal (A2) – which is the pick of the bunch.

Silly Sunday Song – 10 – Edelweiss ‎– I Can’t Get No… (Edelweiss) (US Promo 12″)

From 1989 and a bit of Eurotrash from Austrian band Edelweiss and their follow up to “Bring Me Edelweiss”. The Bonus Beats are in fact random snippets from the song ready for sampling. Novelty House music with plenty of quirky samples and a cheesy/humorous rap by Princessa ( Jennece S. Moore) Clashing in musical styles and of course yodelling and classical music. Slick production by Walter Werzowa and mixed by Jürgen Koppers, it sounds like a dance-fuelled Propaganda meeting the Bee Gee’s on the second mix.

Featuring shared vocals from a long list of soul singers; Maria Mathis, Martin Foster, Mercedes Hall (!), Benny Diggs, Jocelyn Brown, (!) Kevin Owens and Connie Harvey.

House Of Pain ‎– Jump Around (2000 Mix) (US LTD Edition 12″)

The massive crossover Hip-Hop track from Irish/American rappers House Of Pain from 1992 gets a 1998 re-issue by flavour of the month remixer, Jason Nevins. Who speeds it up and adds some funky bass guitar here and there. The “Bump + Grind” mix is a weird hybrid of House and the rap tagged over the top. The Original is here so you can say “Why did he bother?”

You’d be bloody knackered if you danced to it, even by the Radio Edit!!!

Apollo Four Forty ‎– Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Dub (German 12″)

Continuing with the Dance vibe with this track from 1997 by Apollo Four Forty, containing a sample from “Van Halen – Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” it has a cringy lyric on the original version from Mary Mary from indie band Gaye Bykers On Acid. At least there are enough mixes here to distract from it.

The “Nok-Hop” mix layers the beats into breakbeat territory and actually getting quite dubby. Guest mixers include Matrix (Jamie Quinn) who adds a drum and bass beats, giving the track a more chilled vibe. Leading Hip-Hop producer, Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo, maintains the rockier elements and a bit of the vocals, giving it Street Beats. “Booby Trap” (Paul Colbourne and Apollo 440) get real groovy on their mix, a totally different vibe with a lazy groove although keeping the metal guitar riff.

Festival gear for the Festival Season!
