The REPOS/FOURTEEN OR FIGHT Split 7"

Fourteen Or Fight Side:
1.Revenge of the latchkey kids
2.Agressive collector
3.combo amp a go go
4.godless America
The Repos Side:
5.no control
6.one last time
7.fugitive family 2
8.haha hardcore
9.alright!?!
10.fast decline
11.hollow trees

I put this one out many years ago on my label.  Pretty sure it was both bands first vinyl appearance.  I remember hearing the Repos demo in my bedroom in Albany NY… I was floored.  Totally reminded me of Septic Death meets Infest in some really warped way. So When I talked to Aaron from the Repos and he told me they were supposed to do a split with Fourteen Or Fight and it couldn't happen for whatever reason I jumped at the chance to help them out by releasing it.  Fourteen Or Fight was my old room mate Jon Arends hc band after Charles Bronson.  The band also featured Frank on vox who years earlier fronted the legendary MK Ultra.  The copy I have up on here is the limited to 30 copies or something… how can you go wrong with an 11 song 7".  Enjoy and Share

Nine Shocks side:

2.new design
3.control is lost
Killers side:
4.blind eyed
5.at least we die
6.product
7.now this...

I had a long relationship with the dudes from 9 Shocks Terror. I first saw them at a radio show that my buddy Jim MacNaughton did at WRPI in Troy NY. The band didn't have any records out yet, but were traveling with an all female Japanese hc band called the Gaia. I was completely blown away by the ferocity that 9 Shocks provided at the show played to maybe 8 of us. The dudes were as old as I was, and still beat on their equipment like they hated everything and everyone. They gave me hope. I asked them to do a split with my band Devoid Of Faith... and they were into it. later on I'd asked them about this split as I'd become good friends with Mike from the Killers. Both bands were into the idea, and were really stoked at the idea I had to have Pushead do the cover art. I was talking a lot with him back then because he was doing DOF art, rex, etc. He was into the idea of doing the art, and I was shocked when he gave the okay for Mike(the killers)to do the back cover. Mike did a really good Pushead back then. After putting the two in touch with each other a relationship was born. This one didn't take as long to come out as most people would have expected. I did 3000, 1000 on blue, one thousand on green and 1000 on orange.

Fuck yeah... picked this tastey plater up for under $5 bucks recently. It is a record I've been looking to replace because my og is pretty beat. I Bought my copy at the record vault on Polk street in S.F.(The best store ever). I recall my friend Zoran and I went to get King Diamonds autograph, because he was doing an instore at the vault. We were both shocked at how down to earth and short the master of satanic metal was. At any rate that day I left the store with a King Diamond demo tape, his autograph on my Steve Caballero deck, and a copy of this overlooked crossover Hardcore classic.
Out Of Order were one of the early of the Chicago bands I'd heard back then along with Life's Sentence, the Effigies, and Articles Of Faith.
When I listen back to this I can hear lots of Negative Approach, early Sick Of It All, and even some Crumbsuckers. Its really an awesome and tough sounding hardcore record. I wish I'd gotten to see these boys live.

DAMIEN THORNE-the sign of the Jackal LP)1986)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
1.the sign of the jackal
2.fear of the dark
3.the ritual
4.grim reaper
5.hells reign
6.escape of die
7.sirens call
8.Damien's procession

These dirtheads were from Chicago, and played metal that was sort of in between that old traditional heavy metal sound(power metal, or nwobhm), and speed metal. I think there were a fair amount of these bands from the mid 1980's, that found in order for them to survive in what was happening in the metal scene(speed metal/thrash), that they needed to push the envelope a bit more. They needed to play faster, and heavier, changing their sound a little to fit in, or appeal to the youth. In my opinion Damien Thorne were one of those bands. Its awesome because it works well. I think Exciter, and Manowar were guilty of this as well.
I picked this up because of the band name, and the very cool cover art. The name Damien Thorne was that of the son of Satan in the infamous Omen books.
I read these before seeing the movies in around 8th grade. I recall being pretty disappointed by this record because it was to traditional sounding, and didn't have the punk/HC influence that I was now searching for when it came to metal/crossover. Years later I rediscovered it, and realized how much I loved traditional HM.
The Vocals are the stand out for me. They almost have a Rhett Forester sound to them(yup, Riot motherfuckers). The difference would be the high pitched screams that these guys pull off. Enjoy and comment.

MASTER -unreleased 1985 album

1. Master
2. Unknown Soldier (Second Take)
3. Mangled Dehumanization
4. Funeral Bitch
5. Terrorizer
6. Pledge of Allegiance
7. Re-Entry and Destruction
8. Constant Quarrel
9. Judgment of Will
10. Submerged in Sin
11. Cut Through the Filth

I'm sure Metal fans everywhere can recall trading tapes that had at least one song by these dudes on it. If you were lucky you somehow got the entire session. The rumors were flying back then about Master having recorded a full length LP for Combat Records, and ripping up the contract due to some fucked up issues both band and label had with one another. The recordings never came out legitimately, but ultimately were leaked and traded by metal heads around the globe. The recordings went on to influence the likes of Napalm Death, S.O.B., Terrorizer, etc. There really wasn't much else out that sounded this real back then. These recordings put Venom to shame. Master were Another band who were part of the 1st wave of original death metal. Dudes were from Chicago, but leader, vocalist, bassist Paul Speckmann moved over sea's enlisting dudes to help carry on the Master name. A high school buddy of mine, Mark Szwarcberg sent me a tape with some master songs on it after he'd gone down to florida in around 1986-'87. He had zero info on them and thought they were from England. The 5th generation tape didn't even have any song titles, it was just labeled MASTER. My favorite tune on here is "funeral bitch", followed by maybe "pledge of allegiance". These are the original recordings, cleaned up with no hiss or noise.

FOURTEEN OR FIGHT/THE REPOS split 7"

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Fourteen Or Fight
1.revenge of the latchkey kids
2.aggressive collector
3.combo amp a go go
4.godless America
The Repos
1.no control
2.one last time
3.fugitive family 2
4.ha ha hardcore
5.alright??!
6.fast decline
7.hollow trees

Okay I put this record out a few years ago. Usually I stick with older stuff on the blog, but I'm pretty proud of this out of print red slab of wax. Both sides sound pretty fucking old any ways.
Fourteen Or Fight were born from the ashes of Chicago's MK Ultra & Charles Bronson. I was familiar with the bands demo because of my tight relationship with then bassist Jon "Jack" Arrends. These guys played pulverizing hardcore punk that went further back into punk roots then either of the mentioned ex bands that these guys were in. Not really thrashy or powerviolence influenced at all... straight up 80's hardcore with a heavy East coast influence.
The Repos I was exposed to by my old room mate Mark McCoy who played me the bands demo. I was pretty blown away, and heard the strong Septic Death influence, mainly in the vocals.
A few years went on when I got a call from Mark telling me that the bands needed help with this split, as they were planning on originally doing it themselves, but could no longer afford it. I jumped at it, as the 14 Or Fight guys were good friends, and I was planning to release an LP buy them(that was recorded, and never came out). I did 1000 of these bad boys, and its been long out of print. Hope you dig it.

ZOETROPE- a life of crime LP (1987)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.Detention
2.Seeking asylum
3.Promiscuity
4.NASA
5.Unbridled energy
6.Prohibition
7.Company man
8.Pickpocket
9.Hard to survive

Zoetrope were from Chicago IL, and formed in the late 1970's as a punk rock act('78 I think). They self released a 7"ep in 1980 called "the right way", and went on to play with tons of hardcore bands through the early 80's. By the time this LP came out in the later part of the decade, the band was playing straight up speed metal, with catchyness and tightness. This is my favorite of the two decent LPs the band released. The production is perfect.
It was rare in the 1980s for metal bands to have black members (its still pretty fucking rare), and Zoetrope were one of about 4 bands that I can think of that had a black member.
My buddy Zoran loved this album, and would always be blasting it on his stereo before we'd hit the streets of S.F. on our skateboards. We'd get blasted, then bomb some hills.

2.Vomitheads
3.We're All Bored Here
4.Suffer In Silence
5.Walls
6.They Start the War
7.Premature Evacuation

10.This World
11.Sedation
12.Cheer Up You Fucker
13.Kein Spiel
14.Oatmeal II
15.1987 Schizoid Sam
16.Pattonstien's Disease

Killer crossover that was far ahead of its time. Listening to this now, its easy to see how awesome this obscure Chicago band must have been to see live. Fast, raw, yet catchy...with plenty of songs that start off with bass riffs.
I bought this one when I lived in S.F. Some cool punk neighbors of mine on Fell street named Eric and Janice turned me on to this LP one day. It was on Underdog records.
