Prince William visits Jerusalem's Western Wall on first Israel Royal visit
Prince William prayed at the most sacred site accessible to Jews today when he visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City. With a kippah skull cap on his head, the Duke of Cambridge placed a written prayer on a folded piece of paper into one of the cracks in the wall, held his right hand against the ancient stones and spent around a minute in quiet contemplation with his eyes shut. William was escorted around the holy site by Britain's Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis and the rabbi of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinovitch, on the last day of his historic visit to the Middle East. A large crowd of Jewish worshippers watched him as he prayed. One man shouted out: 'We love you' as the prince prayed. Prince William visits refugee camp in the Palestinian territories
In a speech at the British Consulate General in Jerusalem, Prince William told the Palestinians: 'You have not been forgotten'. He also spoke of the 'links of friendship and mutual respect between the Palestinian and British people'. The Duke of Cambridge was accompanied by an extraordinary security detail (main picture) as he went for a walkabout around Ramallah, following a historic meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Scores of security guards accompanied the 36-year-old prince as he was shown around Ramallah and looked at the local landmarks, one day after Israel's president urged him to take a 'message of peace' to the Arab leader. Prince William marks Battle of Amiens centenary in French city
Relatives of soldiers who served and died in the conflict spoke of their pride and sadness as they joined the Prime Minister and the Duke of Cambridge at the event in Amiens Cathedral, northern France, staged exactly 100 years since the start of the offensive. The battle changed the course of the war, as the comprehensive Allied victory, due to superior tactics, use of technology and leadership, finally convinced German commanders they could not win. William acknowledged the debt owed to the First World War troops in a message printed in the official programme, saying: 'The Battle of Amiens, and the continued fighting which followed during the summer of 1918, brought the Allies hope and optimism after four long years of bloodshed and stalemate. Prince William attends moving remembrance service at Yad Vashem
Prince William (left) has made a deeply moving visit to Jerusalem’s holocaust museum on his first full day of engagements in Israel today. The prince, the first British royal to undertake an official tour to the Jewish state in its 70 year history, was at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial and Museum, where he will meet an 80-year-old who was saved from the gas chambers through the Kindertransport, as well as participate in a wreath-laying ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance (right). Yad Vashem, whose Hebrew name literally means a monument and a name, is dedicated to preserving the memory of the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis and of the many Gentiles who aided them. It is situated on the western slope of Mount Herzi, overlooking the city of Jerusalem.

Prince William visits the holy Western Wall in Jerusalem
Prince William (left) enjoyed a breathtaking view of the Old City of Jerusalem this morning from the iconic Mount of Olives. Dressed in a cool beige linen suit, tie and sunglasses, the second in line to the throne spent 20 minutes standing on a viewing point looking out over the sun-bathed city, marvelling at the view. Landmarks such as the Western Wall, Temple Mount and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre were pointed out with the help of Tareq (right), a guide from the British Embassy. He said earlier that he would talk the prince through the major Biblical landmarks of the area and of events that have taken place on the Mount of Olives itself, including the last week of Jesus’ life. The Mount of Olives is a mountain ridge east of Jerusalem’s old city with stunning views of many of its anci...

William acknowledged the debt owed to the First World War troops in a message printed in the official programme, saying: 'The Battle of Amiens, and the continued fighting which followed during the summer of 1918, brought the Allies hope and optimism after four long years of bloodshed and stalemate. While it is right that we have collectively commemorated many of the significant battles and campaigns of those years, it is important that the success of the Battle of Amiens takes its rightful place in our shared history.' Pictured: Prince William bows in the cathedral (main image), after earlier being greeted with a curtsy from Mrs May (inset).

The Duke of Cambridge (pictured top) has followed in the footsteps of his wife by visiting the ruins of a Roman settlement in Jordan as he continues his tour of the Middle East. The Prince visited the Jerash archaeological site today and was photographed visiting the same spot his wife is pictured playing in as a four-year-old child, along with her father Michael Middleton and infant sister, Pippa (bottom). Today Prince William will begin a historic tour of the West Bank today - the first-ever official visit by a member of the royal family to Israel and the Palestinian territories. He will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah at a time of widening rifts between the two sides. (Pictured inset: The Duke and the Crown Prince of Jordan look at the photo of the Duchess, which was taken in the 1980s).

Prince William, 36, has opened up about his own experiences of feeling 'very sad and very down' while working for the air ambulance during the 'This Can Happen' conference in London.

The Mount of Olives is a mountain ridge east of Jerusalem’s old city with stunning views of many of its ancient landmarks.
