25th on the 25th

Well, I haven't made that much blogpost lately due to my very busy schedule and trying to accomplish priorities but definitely I have to make a blogpost about the 25th Anniversary of the Philippine EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986 happening tomorrow February 25, 2011. YUP!! That's why my blogpost title is "25th on the 25th" and created my DIY blogpost header photo. Wheeew!! With the recent political instability in the Middle East primarily in Egypt and Libya, I just wondered that Filipinos had such inspiring uprising back in 1986 which I think trancends the true meaning of the word "CHANGE". The question right now is: "How is my country today after 25 years?". I don't have to answer that question since my blog is not a Political Oriented Blog. He He He!! I know KABAYANS that you have your very own way of answering it which will be a little negative I suppose if there were indeed "CHANGE". Two years ago I had my very first blogpost regarding the 1986 EDSA Revolution by featuring my "MAGKAISA" CD and I guess I just have to get back blogging anytime. But for now, I just wanna wish that some real "CHANGE" can happen in the GOOD way since It has been 25 years already.

25 years of EDSA on Feb 25!!

Finally after a decade of ARROYO administration, my beloved country "The Philippines" has a new President today JUNE 30, 2010. Another historical moment for all KABAYANS!! Of course, that includes a new Vice President too. The 15th President of The Republic Of The Philippines is BENIGNO SIMEON "NOYNOY" COJUANGCO AQUINO III. Well, I hope he would really bring forth changes here in my country together with Philippine Vice President JEJOMAR "JOJO" CABAUATAN BINAY. So they're P-NOY (President Noynoy) and V-NAY ( VP Binay). Let's just wish them all the best in the coming six years. Huh? I wonder if I'm still blogging that time after six years? As long as you guys are still there to support "The Doctor Is In" so why not coconut. He He He!! This would be another chapter on Philippine History and definitely these two gentlemen would be facing a tough task ahead of them. Goodluck!! Goodbye PGMA..... Hello P-NOY!! Ayuz ba mga PINOY?

Remembering AUGUST 21

AUGUST 21 is a date that every FILIPINOS would definitely remember as the day Senator Benigno Servillano "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. was assasinated at the MANILA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MIA) back in AUGUST 21, 1983. The said AIRPORT is now known as the NINOY AQUINO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (NAIA) in honor to him. AUGUST 21, 2009 marks the 26th DEATH ANNIVERSARY of this great FILIPINO that will never be forgotten on PHILIPPINE HISTORY because of his contributions. His death gave birth to an uprising that would restore DEMOCRACY here in the PHILIPPINES back in 1986 when her wife the LATE CORAZON COJUANGCO-AQUINO became the PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES. YUP!! That was the HISTORICAL EDSA PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION of 1986. A LEGACY that would be pass on to generations. According to NINOY "THE FILIPINO IS WORTH DYING FOR". NINOY AQUINO (November 27, 1932 – August 21, 1983).

AUGUST 21 is also a date every PINOY MUSIC ENTHUSIASTS will remember as the day Teodoro de Villa Diaz who is more popularly known as Teddy Diaz was stabbed to death on AUGUST 21, 1988 in front of his girlfriend's house in Quezon City by two bystanders allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The son of Legendary PINOY ACTOR Vic Diaz, PINOY ROCKERS, WAVERS, PUNKS will definitely remember TEDDY's contributions in the PHILIPPINE MUSIC INDUSTRY as the FOUNDING LEAD GUITARIST of PINOY LEGENDARY BAND "THE DAWN". Unfortunately, he died at the peak of THE DAWN's career and popularity. AUGUST 21, 2009 marks the 21st DEATH ANNIVERSARY of this great musician who according to his close friends have a true PASSION FOR MUSIC. As Yours Truly, Dr. Stirring Rhod would sing "Singing out my ENVELOPED I-DIAZ"!! TEDDY DIAZ (April 1, 1963 - August 21, 1988).

Well, we're just remembering the 80s and of course remembering NINOY and TEDDY for this blogpost. THANKS to NINOY and TEDDY for their own contributions for the FILIPINOS to cherished.

SALAMAT TITA CORY!!

Finally, TITA CORY was laid to rest beside the tomb of SENATOR BENIGNO "NINOY" AQUINO JR. at the MANILA MEMORIAL PARK today AUGUST 5 ,2009. I can't believe what I saw regarding the full support of all FILIPINOS.This really made me PROUD TO BE A FILIPINO. YUP!! Yours Truly "Dr. Stirring Rhod" and the whole FILIPINO NATION would like to deeply THANK TITA CORY for all her contributions. AUGUST is definitely a memorable month for the AQUINO FAMILY. I hope and pray that DEMOCRACY will not die when TITA CORY died. A RECORD BREAKING FUNERAL!! A repeat scenario of the FUNERAL of her late husband NINOY back in 1983. SALAMAT TITA CORY!! WE LOVE YOU and YOU WILL BE MISSED our dear beloved President Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino !! May you TRULY REST IN PEACE....AMEN.

Tie A Yellow Ribbon

As I was going to work and then going back home this day I noticed a lot of YELLOW RIBBONS in MANILA and MAKATI and I found out that there were news of that the Former PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT CORAZON COJUANGCO-AQUINO have passed away only to know that It wasn't true. WOW!! Talking about spreading of false rumors. According to Deedee Siytangco, former President Corazon Aquino’s spokesperson, “If there’s anything to be announced, it would be them who will do so.” Well, at this point in time everyone here in my country who are praying for her recovery are still hoping for the best and definitely even the priests who celebrated the healing mass today expressed that It's now in the hands of GOD what fate will have to do to our beloved President who was really vital during the 80s if you are talking about PHILIPPINE HISTORY. The title of my blogpost today is of course base on the popular song by DAWN Feat. TONY ORLANDO entitled "TIE A YELLOW RIBBON ROUND THE OLD OAK TREE" which became #1 in both US and UK charts back in 1973 and also became popular around the world and that includes my very own country , the PHILIPPINES especially during the political turmoil back in the 80s. I remember my parents playing this tune both on our Turntable and Tape Deck back in the 70s and 80s when I was still very young. Btw, I'm young at heart. He He He!! This song was popular here in my country particularly at the time when the Late SENATOR BENIGNO "NINOY" AQUINO (husband of Pres. Cory Aquino) have expressed his intentions back in 1983 to come home from a three year exile in the U.S. to face the Late President MARCOS. As everyone could recall that NINOY was assasinated on AUGUST 21, 1983 and the song "TIE A YELLOW RIBBON ROUND THE OLD OAK TREE" was then associated with NINOY and YELLOW became the fighting color of CORY's Presidential Campaign on the 1986 SNAP ELECTIONS thus the FEBRUARY PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION happened and the rest was history. I personally like this song and the beat can just make me think of those simple times when I was young. The melody and lyrics is quite simple too. Hmmmp!! They don't compose songs like this one nowadays. I made this blogpost because I just remembered this great song when I saw those YELLOW RIBBONS around MANILA and MAKATI which were ordered by MANILA MAYOR ALFREDO LIM and MAKATI MAYOR JEJOMAR BINAY who were both ALLIES of CORY during those times. Well, I just like to rekindle those times so I uploaded the "TIE A YELLOW RIBBON" song for my blogpost. I know It's very different but this is my blog and I truly like the song. He He He!! A sign of getting old? Naaah!! I'm a MUSIC ENTHUSIAST so I dig this. Ha Ha Ha!! Btw, this song was also one of the PIANO PIECES our PIANO TEACHER taught us back in grade school. The Former President called on her children few days ago to be with her at bedside. Right now, Pres. CORY is most of the time asleep and according to NOYNOY AQUINO( CORY's son) her mom is in PAIN THERAPHY. YUP!! The Doctors also confirmed that Pres. CORY is taking too much PAIN RELIEVERS lately due to her critical condition from COLON CANCER. Though, her VITAL SIGNS improved, she has still no appetite. EVERYONE IS STILL PRAYING FOR HER. Personally, "THY WILL BE DONE".

DEAR CORY

FORMER PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT CORAZON AQUINO needs our PRAYERS right now KABAYANS because according to my colleagues our former dear president is in critical condition due to her illness which is COLON CANCER. Her current condition is serious after she was admitted to the Makati Medical Center last week. Mrs. Aquino has been confined in the hospital since Tuesday last week due to poor appetite. She has been transferred to the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) where doctors are closely monitoring her condition and no one have given details about Mrs. Aquino's present medical condition. Last JUNE 14, 2009, we were able to attend SUNDAY MASS at STO. DOMINGO CHURCH and It made me realized that I haven't been to that church for the longest time. This was the CHURCH that cradled the wake of the late SENATOR BENIGNO AQUINO back in 1983 after his assassination back in AUGUST 21, 1983. Well I do remember that day(AUG21) indeed because my family and I just got home from a visit to ANTIPOLO CHURCH when we heard the bad news on TV wayback 1983. Wheew!! MEMORIES INDEED!! As we finished mass we went straight to the church's bookstore to buy a new rosary, then I saw this CATHOLIC NEWSPAPER on the store. There was this interesting article in the FRONT PAGE entitled "ROSARY RALLY FOR THE HEALING OF FORMER PRESIDENT AQUINO" which really strucked me. YUP!! President Cory Aquino have been battling the "BIG C." for such time and BISHOP SOCRATES VILLEGAS which was the former secretary of the late JAIME CARDINAL SIN was leading a PRAYER CAMPAIGN for the former President. I was really moved and touched by this news article and once again reminded me how fragile life is. The levelling power of HUMAN ILLNESS I may say that would really affect any person whether who you are. BISHOP VILLEGAS was inviting his DIOCESE in BATAAN and all Rosary Devotees to pray the 20 mysteries of the HOLY ROSARY. I carry a rosary myself wherever I go and It's really in the heart of every BLUE AND GOLD to practice this everyday. President Cory is also well-known for her devotion for MAMA MARY and of course she usually visit the PINK SISTERS. I was saddened when I heard the latest news regarding our former President who was really a driving force back in the 80s here in the PHILIPPINES during those political turmoil times. I refer to her as the SYMBOL OF DEMOCRACY back then. We just don't have NEW WAVE/PUNK explosion wayback then but a POLITICAL explosion too.


Here's the photo I took of that news article so that it will be included here on my blogpost. Well, I have to say that I have encountered a lot of COLON CANCER patients before and definitely they are really suffering from the agony and pain especially while in CHEMOTHERAPY. You just don't want to see them suffering in front of you or else your heart will just bleed and you will have to say to them "Please Hang On and continue". When you say "COLON" It refers to the LARGE INTESTINES which has the functions of DIGESTION and ABSORPTION of nutrients from food. The colon also CONCENTRATE FECAL MATERIALS by absorbing fluid and electrolytes then It STORES and CONTROLS It's evacuation. COLON CANCER is usually HEREDITARY which means It increases the risk 2-3x if your first degree relative has a history of it. Though there are also a lot of causes too which I'll not anymore elaborate on it. Definitely, we have to offer our Fervent Prayers for Madam Cory Aquino.

In 1990, only few months after another the coup de etat, a PHILIPPINE compilation album entitled "DEAR CORY(A musical message of concern)" was both released on VINYL RECORD and CASSETTE TAPE FORMAT under DYNA RECORDS. I uploaded the whole compilation for you regular visitors of my little blog "The Doctor Is In" and I have to pay for the ripping of the music files so I hope you'll like it. Well, since It was not released on CD format then I made my very own DIY CD of this great compilation. He He He!! The songs here are mostly protest songs during the time of the AQUINO GOVERNMENT. Of course, I just included it here in my blogpost since It's about our Madam President Cory Aquino. Well, basically this compilation is politically motivated and all songs have deep lyrics within that could definitely activate your senses. The bands like ANG GRUPONG PENDONG headed by Alfredo “PENDONG” Aban, Jr. who was a former member of the LEGENDARY PINOY FOLK/ROCK band ASIN would boost up your political awareness. Of course there is also music here from ASIN which is "SALT" in English. The songs that I really love in this complitation are LOKAL BROWN's "START WITH THE CHILDREN", ED FORMOSO's "IF I WERE PRESIDENT", BUKLOD's "TUMINDIG KA" and the two ETHNIC FACES songs namely "SOLDIER'S CORNER" and "BRUTAL SCAR". MAGKAISA

The PHILIPPINE PEOPLE POWER EDSA REVOLUTION back in February 1986 was one very historical moment for my country. It's the 23rd ANNIVERSARY of the EDSA REVOLUTION so here's my own BLOGPOST TRIBUTE to that historical moment. I can still remember that it was February 7,1986 when the "SNAP ELECTION" went on schedule between the late President FERDINAND MARCOS and the late Senator BENIGNO AQUINO's wife Mrs. CORAZON AQUINO(who would be the next Philippine President during those times). This was brought up by the growing clamor of change that the opposition and majority of the Filipinos were insisting. The combined forces of the late SALVADOR "DOY" LAUREL(UNIDO's leader) and MRS. CORY AQUINO made it clear that some change would happen back then. The election was filled with FRAUD and VIOLENCE, then a move to end up the dictatorship was being plotted by an Army General(General FIDEL RAMOS- Philippine President after President Aquino) and the Secretary of Defense( Senator JUAN PONCE ENRILE) who were based on both CAMP AGUINALDO and BONIFACIO. Of course, who would forget the call of the late Archbishop CARDINAL SIN for people power over the radio and I was tuned in that time because I got the news from my relatives living in MAKATI. NINOY's brother BUTZ AQUINO was also very vital to gather people back then. Incidentally, my FRIENDS were having a SOIREE PARTY when this was happening back then which I wasn't able to attend. He he he!! YUP!! I will never forget those times KABAYAN. It was February 22, 1986 when the papers broke the news about millions who came in to the 3-day revolt. We were there on the afternoon of the second day just after school and that was a MONDAY. Wheeew!! YO BEAT, you remember Brother PAUL's announcement right? He he he!! We just spent almost two hours at EDSA but It was really frigthening since you just don't know what would happen if all of a sudden bombs from the sky would just be dropped on the SEA OF HUMANITY who wanted change at that time. It was on February 25,1986 when the revolt ended and the first family left into exile. Definitely, a MIRACLE did happen during those times because It was very peaceful and have placed my country on the MAP of the WORLD and have also inspired some upcoming revolutions around the globe after that. An image of the VIRGIN MARY appeared on a vintage photo on the same spot where ROBINSONS GALLERIA is located right now. So that's why a big CHAPEL was constructed for the memory of the miraculous LADY OF EDSA. I was young back then but the images of EDSA will always remain in my memory banks.


It has been 23 years since that historical revolution and a lot of PINOY are still wondering what happened. WHAT NOW? Naaah!! I guess my KABAYAN knows the answer on this one so I don't have to elaborate on it okay. I'm here to feature this Album by VIRNA LISA which was originally released few months after that very PEACEFUL REVOLUTION and was remastered on CD by IVORY RECORDS in 1999. Well, I bought my own original copy of the CD so you will ask "Why did I buy It?"......my answer "Why Not?" He He He!!

The album entitled "MAGKAISA(The EDSA REVOLUTION A Tribute To The Filipino People)" has a total of 8 songs all sung by VIRNA LISA. The MAJOR HIT was the song "MAGKAISA" which was composed by TITO SOTTO of the fame PINOY comedy trio "TITO, VIC AND JOEY" who also became a SENATOR. Special THANKS were also given to TONY TUVIERA and VIC SOTTO for their assistance in the arrangement of the song "MAGKAISA". The album producer was TITO SOTTO and the arranger was HOMER FLORES. This was recorded at TASHA RECORDING STUDIO. I guess that's enough INFO for you guys regarding the album. So where's VIRNA LISA right now? Hmmmp!! I have no idea guys.

Although this song was not included on the album, I find it very relevant since this blogpost is about the 1986 EDSA revolution then It is proper to include this song because It was also a song which was composed that time and to be exact April 1986 by none other than JIM PAREDES of the famous singing trio "APO HIKING SOCIETY" and was very popular for Filipinos back then. YUP!! JIM, DANNY, and BUBOY of APO were very active back then in the political scene.Filipino Artists featured on the song were Apo Hiking Society, Celeste Legaspi, Coritha & Eric, Edru Abraham, Gretchen Barretto, Ivy Violan, Inang Laya, Joseph Olfindo, Kuh Ledesma, Leah Navarro, Lester Demetillo, Noel Trinidad, Subas Herrero.
