Yemen is headed for famine. Likely to have the highest death toll of any since millions died in North Korea in the mid-90s. It it not inevitable. It is not natural. The US could stop it. The Saudis could stop it. They are choosing not to. They are CHOOSING not to. /end

Paul Manafort lied and stole millions from the American people, then lied again to the government to secretly help President Trump. Trump's reaction: "Why would I take [a pardon] off the table?” Because the pardon power should be about preventing injustice, not creating it.

Great to see lay out the case for why a complete DPRK declaration is a "dead end" with more authority and detail than I ever could. Hope this is on top of Biegun & Pompeo's desks tomorrow morning.

Rep. Cheney & Sen. Cotton want to deny funding for New START extension, calling it is "deeply flawed" because it doesn't cover systems it doesn't cover. Applaud the plan to use NS extension to seek limits on tactical + other systems. But what they want is a new treaty (+ NS).

A whole year without any ballistic missile tests is more significant given the high-frequency of launches in previous two years . . . not to mention what was tested!

The Onion is consistently, brutally better equipped for this era of American politics than Senate leadership and some other major grey publications we could mention.

Continued struggle to find and retain expert and credible personnel to conduct DPRK talks. Also an opportunity to return the responsibility to the State Dept. where it belongs.

This is good - sounds like the State Department is seriously considering video or phone reunions between Korean Americans and their relatives in the DPRK

Good run-down on modifications to US+ROK exercises: btn. & below on pen, others off, including in Hawaii, JBLM. Great to see the alliance get the job done with flexibility & creativity to support diplomacy. They'll have to make a determination about overall sustainability soon.

True both for political and strategic reasons. If we want to reduce reliance on nuclear weapons (& we should), we need to know far more about how conventional forces can discharge these missions without themselves causing instability.
