Should but unfortunately never were demonstrated through actions. Quite the opposite especially with Julie Bishop. Hence loss of all leverage and credibility.

Human rights and good governance should be bedrock principles of Australian foriegn policy in the Pacific. In the end, turning a blind eye to abuses will damage Australia as much as those nations where the abuses are taking place. Isn’t that a more “realist” policy?

Hard to overstate how significant this is to Australia/Pacific relationships and, more importantly, to the people of our region who look to labour mobility as an opportunity to improve their livelihoods:

Excellent reporting on the New Cakedinian referendum from Stefan Armbruster. Full marks to SBS for sending a reporting team there - it's a neighbouring territory after all and its future is something which impacts AustrAlia.

I’m actually not sure what genuine interest there is in royal fashion. But maybe I’m out of touch.

Good for calling out commercial media for failing to provide any meaningful information about (or ) when covering the royal visit. Like I was not surprised. But that doesn't make it OK. When will Aus MSM 'step up'?

Media Watch asks a not unreasonable question about coverage of the royal visit to Fiji seemingly concentrating on what Meghan was wearing but not asking anything about the politics of the visit. I appear in a cameo role as "a veteran reporter".

More political support for an enhanced Australian broadcasting presence in the Pacific. Much of this interest is down to brilliant lobbying by and others. Hopefully, this interest in the issue will be shared by other parties as well.

Encouraging news about Australia's opposition Labor Party supporting an enhanced Pacific broadcasting presence. Lots of excellent behind the scenes work from and others deserve thanks and praise.
