Sam Bennett is taking this Troy Brouwer buyout news the hardest. Told me this morning that he was going to get a memorial tattoo to remember his time playing with him - It’ll be a massive anchor on his back.

Brad Treliving's "No Excuses Tour" continues: Coaching staff not getting it done? Out. Hamilton not a fit? Gone. Brouwer clogging up spots for youngsters? Bought out.

A bit surprised to see buy out Brouwer simply because it’s not a thing they’ve historically been very keen to do, but all indications this summer — both in words (front office quotes) and actions (players drafted, signed) is club realizes speed and skill is where it’s at.

I’ll take a more human stance: it wasn’t Troy Brouwer’s fault he was way overpaid for his role. He was held personally responsible by all of us for a contract we all would’ve signed. That’s on the . Having said that, CGY needed to do this given their cap situation.

Hockey side of it, it's a good move for the , but he's a human with a family, and was great for the community with a big heart for the kids, wish him all the best, hope he gets a gig on another team :)

I would expect Mikael Backlund or James Neal to inherit Brouwer's alternate captaincy. Maybe even Matthew Tkachuk.

Finally had a chance to call Dougie Hamilton this morning and explain why we felt we had to trade him. He told me “I don’t care.” I said “Exactly. Thanks for being self aware.”

With news out of Calgary, I can tell you we’re very interested in signing Troy Brouwer. He checks all the boxes... ✅ Local kid ✅ Brings size ✅ Skates slow ✅ Makes us older ✅ Takes a roster space away from our young players. Rebuild complete.

Last night, we wanted to provide a couple of our top prospects a chance to have dinner with Iginla and learn from one of the all-time greats... Unfortunately, Brouwer and Stone arrived early, took their seats, and ate three mains each. Maybe next year Foo and Välimäki!

For what it’s worth, has Oliver Kylington as the number 1 ranked prospect. You all know I’ve been driving the bandwagon for years, but I think he’s been especially underrated of late because he’s developed quietly. 169 AHL games exp at only 20 years old.

Big step toward a new Noah Hanifin contract. Talked details over some Big Life craft beers and a side of delicious Tableside Fresh Smashed Guacamole at our local Moxie’s… I needed to know where he stood on Moxie’s because I am NOT about to get blindsided by THAT again.

I talked to GM Brad Treliving about the buyout of Troy Brouwer and what went wrong, and now that the canvas is essentially blank, his philosophy on how a fourth line should be constructed in today's NHL.
