TIL that during the Mexican-American war an estimated 700 Irish men deserted the US Army to join the Mexicans and fought in the Battle of Churubusco. The were called Batallón de San Patricio (St. Patricks battalion) and are considered heroes of Mexico. by Robot1501in todayilearned

As a white Mexican I can attest to this. Many people don't know about Mexico's ties with France, Italy and as another user already said, Germany.

Mexicans aren't just direct descendants of the Aztec, there are countless other peoples, plus Immigrants, Colonists and Mestizos who are the majority.

Not the only reason, Mexico has several millions of direct European descendants, Red haired people are also common in Spain. 700 Irish men might have brought some of the genes, the rest just immigrated at some point during the 500 years Mexico has had contact with Europe.

Norther Mexico gets snow pretty regularly, People seem to imagine all of Mexico is down south closer to the Equator for some reason, this is taken in Juarez which is almost as far north as Dallas.

I'm not arguing from a religious point of view, as I am not member of any church, I am speaking as someone who studies history.

It is never about just feeding a hungry person then throwing money at them, who do you think got to build the cathedral for often several generations living in worker's quarters and being fed by the religious orders? the aristocracy? no the poor and homeless. If it all worked through simple donations we wouldn't be building schools in Africa we would be sending dollar bills and Cheetos.

You mentioned you "travelled the world" that has always been a major income of the church, the ones who aren't needy can travel to diverse religious points of interest (pilgrimages) and spend along the way, creating more jobs a more stable economy and promoting trade. If you build small huts and then gave all the money off to give everyone a stew the money would dry up in a couple of generations.

If the Vatican sold off all its goods and treasures millions if not billions would be lost as they won't be able to charge X and Y tourists $20 to see a 16th century masterpiece. It's not just the money they have, it's the constant influx of money directly related by people wanting to see the treasures.

It's like the English Monarchy who make more money and generate more jobs and income, simply by existing, through tourism and land ownership that they cost the country in flamboyant weddings and Corgi dogs.

This was built in the 14th century when religious institutions where pretty much the only ones feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless and educating the poor.

This is one of the reasons.

I was way too dominant, my team could push any European team aside. I started feeling overly accomplished and my veteran players, the ones that had long been the backbone of the team, were already retiring; felt it was the right time to step down.

Had a big team, had a big budget, had big staff.

The scouts I just hoped would stop being useless at some point, Boy was I disappointed. I kept them around because of reasons.

Yeah, at first they really worked out for me, then somewhere mid last year I just stopped getting any recommendations from most of them.

Not expecting that to continue for long I kept them on payroll.
