The Australian Press Council was established in 1976 and is responsible for promoting good standards of media practice, community access to information of public interest, and freedom of expression through the media.

The Press Council is also the principal body with responsibility for responding to complaints about Australian newspapers, magazines and associated digital outlets.

ACCC submission and Annual Report 2016-17
The Press Council has made a submission to the ACCC's Digital Platforms Inquiry and its latest Annual Report is now available. 

Latest Adjudications
New adjudications concern a complaint by a restaurant owner about an article in The Courier-Mail and another about The Daily Telegraph's reporting on the then Human Rights Commissioner Gillian Triggs.
