Woodward was born in Croydon, Surrey, the only child of working class parents Edward Oliver Woodward, a metalworker, and Violet Edith Woodward (née Smith). As a boy, he was bombed out of his home three times during the Blitz. He attended Eccleston Road, Sydenham Road, and E Wallington, as well as Kingston Day Commercial School, all in Surrey. He then attended Kingston College.

Today is the anniversary of my mum's sad and untimely passing, Ina Roughan. The late Edward Woodward was her favourite actor and singer. This song was her favourite one. So I made this video showing mum at different stages of her life, with some pictures of Edward too, and a couple of myself. Mum was not connected to Edward in any way at all, and the children shown are not related to him. Mum was just a fan of a great actor and a great singer. Bless you Edward Woodward. And bless you mum. I hope that you are able to see this video, and hear your favourite singer from wherever you are in the sky. Love from Chris

Having met the man and shared a few memorable moments with him, I thought it might be appropriate to share some memories of the late, great Edward Woodward, the widely loved star of that extraordinary 1970s British horror masterpiece, The Wicker Man.
Edward Woodward, the British film & recording star, recorded and released this cover of an early composition by Elton John & Bernie Taupin, on his 1970 album "This Man Alone", released by Dick James Music. Produced by Stephen James (the son of Dick James) and arranged and conducted by Johnnie Scott. It was also released as a B-side to the single from that album "The Way You Look Tonight". This audio recording is copied from the original vinyl. These were the days when Elton John and Bernie Taupin were primarily employed to write songs for the Dick James organization to record with other artists. You can hear Elton's piano demo here: http://youtu.be/Zqagv0m6eEk ...and a full-production orchestral demo by Elton John here: http://youtu.be/NpGNi2RyCbQ

In this first part, she claims to be from Hollow Earth; discusses her six-month trip to Hollow Earth as a child; some of the beings and people she met; the creatures she saw; the technology in use down there; and the turn of events that transpired upon her return to the surface. We also get into how she graduated at the age of 12 from high school and her search for a job that ultimately led her to earn a Commission in the US Air Force - her first duty assignment: The Pentagon...and her next - Area 51. Regarding gender references here and in the opening of this video, my apologies for any confusion. Here, I use she/her. in my introduction, I use he/him. A snippet from his conversation with guest Edward Woodward, here promoting his television show "The Eqaulizer."
Cult British film The Wicker Man has returned to cinema screens with a new 'final cut' that claims to be closer to the director's original vision. The longer version of the movie has famously been lost since its release 40 years ago. The film follows a police sergeant, played by Edward Woodward, who goes to the fictional Scottish island of Summerisle to search for a missing girl. Director Robin Hardy spoke to the BBC's Al Moloney about working with Woodward and co-star Christopher Lee on the project and his desire to make a third film in his 'wicker' trilogy. British 'Special Section' Agent David Callan (played by actor Edward Woodward), threatens his 'Section' boss, Colonel Hunter with violence (after Hunter threatened to have Callan "destroyed" if he didn't carry out a job of making contact with a Nazi war criminal who is wanted by the Israelis). "The Section" as it's referred to, is a special division of the British Secret Intelligence Service, and 'Hunter' is the head of the section. This extract from "Callan" was filmed in black & white in 1967. ('Hunter' is replaced in later episodes by actor William Squire). In this episode, Callan is armed with a .38 Special 'snub-nose' revolver capable of firing six shots. (In later episodes, Callan switches to a slightly smaller 5 shot.38 revolver).
Marilyn French, writer of The Women's Room, is interviewed on the Wogan show in 1987. Also present during the interview is Edward Woodward.
