Tungsten, also known as wolfram, is a chemical element with symbol W and atomic number 74. The word tungsten comes from the Swedish language tung sten, which directly translates to heavy stone. Its name in Swedish is volfram, however, in order to distinguish it from scheelite, which in Swedish is alternatively named tungsten.
A hard, rare metal under standard conditions when uncombined, tungsten is found naturally on Earth only in chemical compounds. It was identified as a new element in 1781, and first isolated as a metal in 1783. Its important ores include wolframite and scheelite. The free element is remarkable for its robustness, especially the fact that it has the highest melting point of all the elements. Its high density is 19.3 times that of water, comparable to that of uranium and gold, and much higher (about 1.7 times) than that of lead. Polycrystalline tungsten is an intrinsically brittle and hard material, making it difficult to work. However, pure single-crystalline tungsten is more ductile, and can be cut with a hard-steel hacksaw.
Tungsten carbide (chemical formula: WC) is a chemical compound (specifically, a carbide) containing equal parts of tungsten and carbon atoms. In its most basic form, tungsten carbide is a fine gray powder, but it can be pressed and formed into shapes for use in industrial machinery, cutting tools, abrasives, armor-piercing rounds, other tools and instruments, and jewelry.
Tungsten carbide is approximately two times stiffer than steel, with a Young's modulus of approximately 530–700 GPa (77,000 to 102,000 ksi), and is double the density of steel—nearly midway between that of lead and gold. It is comparable with corundum (α-Al
2O
3) in hardness and can only be polished and finished with abrasives of superior hardness such as cubic boron nitride and diamond powder, wheels, and compounds.
Historically referred to as Wolfram Wolf Rahm, wolframite ore discovered by Peter Woulfe was then later carburized and cemented with a binder creating a composite now called "Cemented Tungsten Carbide". Tungsten is Swedish for 'heavy stone'.
The white hot is a variation on the hot dog found primarily in the Western New York area. It is composed of a combination of uncured and unsmoked pork, beef, and veal; the lack of smoking or curing allows the meat to retain a naturally white color. White hots usually contain mustard and other spices, and often include a dairy component such as nonfat dry milk.
The white hot originated in the 1920s in Rochester's German community as a "white and porky". It was originally a cheaper alternative to high-price red hot dogs, made of the less desirable meat parts and various fillers; in contrast, modern versions are made from quality meats and are generally sold at higher prices than common hot dogs.
One of the best-known producers of the white hot is Zweigle's. Although they were not the first to make white hots, they were the first to secure a contract at the Red Wing Stadium soon after Zweigle's founder Robert Berl began making the dogs in 1925. The white hot has become the official hot dog of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Rochester Americans and Rochester Rhinos and was the official hot dog of the Washington Nationals during the major league baseball team's first season.

Tungsten is one of the transition metals, and is located in group 6 of the periodic table of chemical elements. It got it’s name from the mineral wolframite, from which this mineral is obtained. Also, a tiny fun fact, wolfram is a Swedish word. Now if we look at the appearance, tungsten looks like a shiny metal with gray tint, though if you hold a rod of tungsten in the hand you may experience one special characteristic. The density of tungsten is almost 20 grams per cubic centimeter, which is very close to the density of gold. That is the reason why tungsten was used for faking ...
We pooled up the Patreon donations and bought a solid tungsten cube. They sell these as a "kilo cube" but oddly use inches for the dimensions. Since we couldn't find any examples of anyone ever shooting one of these cubes, we could only guess what would happen. I predicted the cube would shatter and I would be bringing the cube home in a bag. What should I do with the cube now? Would anyone be interested in buying it? I'll post it on my facebook page so maybe we can put that money back into the pot for the purchase of other stuff. https://www.facebook.com/taofledermaus Music by Stone McKnuckle https://www.youtube.com/user/Zaghurim Patreon support! https://www.patreon.com/taofledermaus I purchased this cube on ebay from the manufacture: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/7...

So can you forge Tungsten Carbide? The internet says no... and in this video you will see what happens when I try to... Can you forge tungsten carbide? I certainly can't!
Quick question to an answer, no. But fun was had in the doing!
So many people have asked us to shoot some tungsten carbide from a shotgun. Well, the planets lined up and it just so happened that a channel called AvE had some cobalt-tungsten rounds that were "shotgun-able". He spent a lot of time, effort, and money to send these to use to shoot because his viewers asked him to do that! What the what? The outrage! Don't try this yourself. We take a look at mercury's extremely strong surface tension. Mercury is very dense, but what happens if we try to float something even denser, such as a tungsten rod on it? Density is simply a ratio between distilled water and any other substance occupying the same space. It can be a gallon of air and a gallon of water or a ml. of water and a ml. of steel. The ratio is always the same. Can we break through the surface tension of the Hg using soap, or even nitric acid? In this video we are putting some aluminium foil balls to the test with our 50mm Tungsten Carbide Ball. We heat up the Tungsten sphere to 1000+C° and place it on the aluminiumfoil balls. The result is pretty clear as you can see. Tungsten Carbide is one of the hardest materials on this planet with the same density as gold. This ball weighs 1000grams with it's 50mm diameter. Comparision : If you would have a 50mm plastic ball filled with water this would weigh about 55grams. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch more of our videos : http://bit.ly/PressTubeVideos Subscribe Here : http://bit.ly/Sub2PressTube Our facebook page : http://www.facebook.com/presschannel Our Instagram : http://www.instagram.com/presstube_...

When we were in Las Vegas last week, my bro's buddy claimed his Tungsten wedding ring was indestructible during one of his many drunken rants. In fact, he was so confident that he bet my brother $20 he couldn't break it. The rules were simple, he would have twenty minutes to hammer the ring as many times as he wanted. My brother decided one attempt was all he needed...........with a sledgehammer.
