Royal Air Force Valley or more simply RAF Valley (Welsh: RAF y Fali) (IATA: VLY, ICAO: EGOV) is a Royal Air Force station on the island of Anglesey, Wales, and which is also used as Anglesey Airport. It provides fast-jet training using the BAE Systems Hawk and provides training for aircrew working with search and rescue.
The airfield was constructed in the latter part of 1940 and opened for operations on 1 February 1941 as a Fighter Sector Station under No. 9 Group RAF with the task of providing defence cover for England's industrial north-west and shipping in the Irish Sea. Initial detachments were made by Hawker Hurricanes of 312 and 615 Squadrons. A detachment of Bristol Beaufighters of 219 Squadron provided night fighter cover.
No. 456 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) formed at Valley on 30 June 1941 and became operational on 5 September flying Boulton Paul Defiants. By November the squadron had completely re-equipped with Beaufighter IIs, and these provided defensive night patrols over the Irish Sea until March 1943, when the unit moved away.
The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's aerial warfare force. Formed toward the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918, it is the oldest independent air force in the world. Following victory over the Central Powers in 1918 the RAF emerged as, at the time, the largest air force in the world. Since its formation, the RAF has taken a significant role in British military history, in particular, playing a large part in the Second World War where it fought its most famous campaign, the Battle of Britain.
The RAF's mission is to support the objectives of the British Ministry of Defence (MoD), which are to "provide the capabilities needed: to ensure the security and defence of the United Kingdom and overseas territories, including against terrorism; to support the Government’s foreign policy objectives particularly in promoting international peace and security." The RAF describe its mission statement as "... [to provide] An agile, adaptable and capable Air Force that, person for person, is second to none, and that makes a decisive air power contribution in support of the UK Defence Mission." The mission statement is supported by the RAF's definition of air power, which guides its strategy. Air power is defined as: "The ability to project power from the air and space to influence the behaviour of people or the course of events."
A valley is a low area between hills, often with a river running through it.
In geology, a valley or dale is a depression that is longer than it is wide. The terms U-shaped and V-shaped are descriptive terms of geography to characterize the form of valleys. Most valleys belong to one of these two main types or a mixture of them, (at least) with respect to the cross section of the slopes or hillsides.
A valley in its broadest geographic sense is also known as a dale. A valley through which a river runs may also be referred to as a vale. A small, secluded, and often wooded valley is known as a dell or in Scotland as a glen. A wide, flat valley through which a river runs is known in Scotland as a strath. A mountain cove is a small valley, closed at one or both ends, in the central or southern Appalachian Mountains which sometimes results from the erosion of a geologic window. A small valley surrounded by mountains or ridges is sometimes known as a hollow. A deep, narrow valley is known as a cwm (also spelled combe or coombe). Similar geological structures, such as canyons, ravines, gorges, gullies, and kloofs, are not usually referred to as valleys. See also: "chine". A valley formed by erosion is called an erosional valley; a valley formed by geologic events such as drop faults or the rise of highlands is called a structural valley.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is in service with five nations: United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain and Austria. The aircraft has also been ordered by Saudi Arabia, with the first aircraft already delivered. The aircraft has so far been provided in a basic form and most of the major systems including the CAPTOR radar and the Defence Aids Sub-System (DASS) are expected to be improved and updated over time.
Seven development aircraft (DA) were built with varying equipment fits and flight test roles.
The instrumented production aircraft (IPA) are five production standard aircraft fitted with telemetry instruments for dedicated flight testing and further systems development.
These are the operational and training aircraft. The Eurofighter is known as Typhoon in the United Kingdom and export markets and as EF-2000 in Germany, Italy and Spain. However all Italian aircraft carry the "Typhoon" logo on their tails.
The Mach Loop (also known as the Machynlleth Loop) refers to a series of valleys in the United Kingdom in west-central Wales, notable for their use as low-level training areas for fast jet aircraft. The system of valleys lies 8 miles east of Barmouth and is nestled between the towns of Dolgellau to the north and Machynlleth to the south, the latter of which it takes its name from. The training area is within the Low Flying Area (LFA) LFA7, which covers most of Wales.
Aircraft which use the training area include Royal Air Force Tornado, Typhoon, and Hawk jets, as well as U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles, which are based at RAF Lakenheath in eastern England.

This was my first visit to the "Mach Loop" Whilst on holiday in north Wales in 2009. It was awesome, I was very lucky, on my first day there were over 30 passes, and on my second day loads of Typhoons and a F-15. The photographers up there were a very friendly people, and I would like to thank all of them, for the tips and advice they gave me about the Mach Loop. Cad West was definitely my favorite site on the loop.

When your daily routine starts bothering you, escaping from it might be the best solution. We decided to trek from Stockholm to Tyresta National park only sleeping in a tent. It was our first experience, and what a nice experience. We probably understood why are people changing once they experienced such a travel. Complete wildness of lakes and forest. This feeling that nothing is more important than having a little bit of food and water and a shelter. And finally understanding that our humanity has been lost for work, profit, stress and technology. I wish you'll enjoy the video as much as we had to make this travel, don't hesitate to write your impressions or comments ! ---------------------------------- I do not own musical credits, - Country Instrumental _ Beat Backwoods ( ht...

Collection of clipse recorded from RAF Valley on Anglesey. Recorded July 2014
Copyright © Matthew Price 2016 I recently went to Anglesey and decided to film some Hawk T2's at RAF Valley with the odd helicopter floating about now and then. The day brought brilliant sunshine and lovely skies, and a lot of heat haze that you'll be able to see in the video! It was amazing to see such great flying and the way they form up is just brilliant. Apparently it was the last day for the Hawk T1's as the T2's are now going to be the main RAF training jet, however none were out on the day, so all jets filmed are T2's.
OK, so I go out to Bavaria, Germany to look at the Grob 120TP that the RAF is bringing into service to teach Elementary Flying Training in 2018!

Although this was the "Prestwick Airport" we all know and love, today it was working under one of it's other pseudonyms, namely "RAF Prestwick". Two pairs of Hawks up from Valley for a gas, lunch'n'go, ongoing training for the Sea King, and the two Hercules that have been up here all week heading home to Brize Norton for the weekend.
A Day in the life of the busy Air Force Base on RAF Valley. Some nice close ups of Crew and Aircraft all to which I am truly grateful for the opportunity to film them.
