199 Park Lane

199 Park Lane was a British soap opera that aired on BBC1 in 1965. Airing twice a week, the series was set in a luxury block of flats in London.

A total of 18 episodes were broadcast, the first two with the titles "The New Tenant" and "Decision". The series was later wiped by the BBC and no episodes survive in the archives.

Dudley House, London

Dudley House is a Grade II* listed house with 44,000 square feet (4,100 m²) located at 100 Park Lane in Mayfair, London. It is one of the few surviving aristocratic private palaces in London. Dudley House is named after the Ward family, holders of the titles Baron Ward, Viscount Dudley and Ward, and Earl of Dudley.

History

An earlier house with stabling on the site was acquired by the John, 6th Baron Ward in 1742. In 1759, the 3rd Viscount Dudley and Ward undertook substantial alterations to the property. Between 1827 and 1829 the 1st Earl of Dudley, of the first creation, rebuilt the house to the plans of the architect William Atkinson. The Earl died childless and insane in 1833, and the house was leased to the 2nd Marquess Conyngham, and then to the 2nd Marquess of Abercorn. In 1847 the Earl's cousin, the 11th Lord Ward took over the house, and remained until his death in 1885, by which time he had become 1st Earl of Dudley, of the second creation. In 1855 he commissioned alterations from architect Samuel Whitfield Daukes that were most impressive, including an 81 ft picture gallery and a 50 ft ballroom. After inheriting from his father, the 2nd Earl of Dudley extended the conservatory over the porch.

Park Lane Hotel (Manhattan)

The Park Lane Hotel is a New York City luxury hotel located at 36 Central Park South, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in Midtown Manhattan, overlooking Central Park. Constructed in 1971, the hotel was designed by the prolific architecture firm, Emery Roth & Sons, for prominent New York City real estate developer Harry Helmsley. The Hotel currently operates under the ownership of Steve Witkoff’s real estate investment firm, the Witkoff Group.

History

In the early 20th century, several notable hotels were built to cater to the area’s affluent visitors, including the JW Marriott Essex House (Frank Grad, 1930), The Pierre (Schultze & Weaver, 1930), the Plaza Hotel (Henry Hardenbergh, 1905-7), and the Sherry-Netherland Hotel (Schultze & Weaver with Buchman & Kahn, 1926–27). These hotels adjoined the green expanse of Central Park and sit on parcels that have long been desirable for the development of luxury hotels. The Park Lane was a modern addition to this highly historic and coveted Luxury Hotel district of Central Park South.
