Phil Perry (born January 12, 1952, Springfield, Illinois) is an American R&B singer, songwriter, musician and a former member of the soul group "The Montclairs" from 1971 to 1975.

Biography

In 1972, The Montclairs recorded under the Paula label with minor soul ballads that included "Dreaming's Out Of Season", "Prelude to a Heartbreak", and "Begging's Hard To Do". The Montclairs left Paula Records and disbanded in 1975. Perry later moved to California with former Montclair, Kevin Sanlin, and teamed up as a duo, that had a short stay with two albums, at Capitol in the early 1980s (produced by Chuck Jackson and Dr. Cecil Hale). One song 'Just to Make You Happy' had a respectable level of success in radio.

In 1985 he married singer Lillian "Tang" Tynes, and began a marriage partnership that has lasted ever since. As vocalists, the Perrys are featured singing background for numerous projects and TV/Radio jingles, as well as in a duet titled 'Do Not Disturb' on the One Heart One Love album, released in 1998. 'Lill' Perry is also featured on the background vocals of Perry's first five solo albums. The nearly 25 year marriage has produced four children, Joseph, Paloma, Philip II, and Jacob. In the 1990s, he had his biggest success with the number-one R&B hit "Call Me" (previously recorded and written by Aretha Franklin), a remake of the 1970 hit, as well as the top forty R&B singles "Amazing Love" and "Forever" (written by Brenda Russell) all from the hit album, Perry's first solo release The Heart of the Man (1991), even though he has released many albums since his breakthrough in 1991. Phil Perry is also featured on many GRP Records projects, with guitarist Lee Ritenour in particular.

If Only You Knew

"If Only You Knew" was a single written and produced primarily by Dexter Wansel and Cynthia Biggs for American singer Patti LaBelle's sixth solo album, I'm in Love Again. It was released as the album's official first single in 1983, spending four weeks at number one on the U.S. R&B charts during January and February 1984, and reached number forty-six on the Billboard Hot 100, marking her first crossover pop hit.

Overview

By 1982, Patti LaBelle had endured a 20-year career in music experiencing minor and major success, first with her longtime group, Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles (later known as Labelle), and then brief commercial success in her now-dormant solo career. While LaBelle had enjoyed critical success with her self-titled solo album and four subsequent albums following that on Epic Records, none of the records translated to commercial success, as had been a problem during her long tenure with Labelle, who only had one major hit, "Lady Marmalade", in 1975.

While respected for her longevity in the music business, LaBelle's recordings were not easily marketable as producers struggled to find a hit for the singer. While LaBelle was regarded as an exciting live performer, none of the nine singles LaBelle released as a solo artist hit the top of either the pop and R&B charts, and her four albums with Epic had performed only marginally successful. Seeking a change in direction, CBS Records, the parent label for Epic Records, transferred the singer's contract to Philadelphia International Records, co-founded by the singer's hometown friends, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.

If Only You

"If Only You" is the third single from the album Heart Beats by Danny Saucedo. It features Therese on the radio version which was released in early August.

On Aug. 8th, 2007 Danny & Therese sang "If Only You" at Sommarkrysset 2007 that was aired on TV4.

The single peaked at number three on the Swedish Singles Chart.
