Indochina, or the Indochinese Peninsula (also known as Mainland Southeast Asia), refers to the continental portion of Southeast Asia lying east of India and roughly south or southwest of China. The historical name "Indochina" has its origins in the French Indochine, a combination of the names of "India" and "China", referring to the location of the territory between those two countries.
The countries of mainland Southeast Asia received cultural influence from both India and China to varying degrees. Some cultures, such as those of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Malaysia are influenced mainly by India with a smaller influence from China. Others, such as Vietnam, are more heavily influenced by Chinese culture with only minor cultural influences from India, largely via the Champa civilization that Vietnam conquered during its southward expansion.
The region experienced colonial rule through the 19th century into the mid-20th century with French Indochina as well as British India.
The First Indochina War (generally known as the Indochina War in France, and as the Anti-French Resistance War in contemporary Vietnam) began in French Indochina on 19 December 1946 and lasted until 1 August 1954. Fighting between French forces and their Viet Minh opponents in the South dated from September 1945. The conflict pitted a range of forces, including the French Union's French Far East Expeditionary Corps, led by France and supported by Emperor Bảo Đại's Vietnamese National Army against the Viet Minh, led by Ho Chi Minh and its People's Army of Vietnam led by Vo Nguyen Giap. Most of the fighting took place in Tonkin in Northern Vietnam, although the conflict engulfed the entire country and also extended into the neighboring French Indochina protectorates of Laos and Cambodia.
The Nationalist Movement is a Mississippi-based, white nationalist organization with headquarters in Wisconsin that advocates what it calls a "pro-majority" position. It has been called white supremacist by the Associated Press and Anti-Defamation League, among others. Its leader was formerly Richard Barrett and is now Thomas Reiter. Its Secretary was Barry Hackney. Its activities include its Warrior-Training Camp, Unixandria Library, Crosstar website, Free-Tip news-service, Crosstar Forum, Crosstar Blogs, The Nationalist Dictionary, Airlink television-studios and Nationalist Legal-Defense Fund. Former activities included a Prisoner Pen-Pal Club and the All The Way newspaper. The symbol of the movement is the Crosstar.
In 1987 the movement applied for 501(c)(3) non-profit status. This status was denied due to the organization's use of resources for non-charitable purposes. The movement filed a lawsuit challenging the decision on constitutional grounds, but was defeated. The movement was active in protests against Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Atlanta, Georgia in 1989. Its Neighborhood, Home, Family and Country parade and rally in South Boston drew crowds and police. It held a demonstration in Simi Valley, California in 1992, in defense of the police officers accused of beating Rodney King. In 1993, it held a Majority-Rights Freedom Rally at the Colorado State Capitol, in opposition to gay rights.
The Nationalist is a newspaper based in Clonmel in County Tipperary, Ireland which was established in 1890.
It is a broadsheet newspaper that appears weekly, covering news, events, and sport in both Clonmel town and south Tipperary. It has a circulation of over fourteen thousand in 2010. It was formed to represent the views of the nationalist community in Tipperary, which led to the first editor been jailed under the Coercion Act on charges that he had intimidated a cattle dealer for taking a farm from which tenants had been evicted. The paper is currently owned by Iconic Newspapers, who acquired Johnston Press' titles in the Republic of Ireland in 2014.

French Indo-China (now commonly known as French Indochina) (French: Indochine française; Khmer: សហភាពឥណ្ឌូចិន; Vietnamese: Đông Dương thuộc Pháp, pronounced [ɗoŋm zɰəŋ tʰuə̀k fǎp], frequently abbreviated to Đông Pháp; Lao: ຝຣັ່ງແຫຼັມອິນດູຈີນ; Cantonese: 法屬印度支那; faat3 suk6 jan3 dou6 zi1 naa5), officially known as the Indo-Chinese Union (Union indochinoise) after 1887 and the Indo-Chinese Federation (Fédération indochinoise) after 1947, was a grouping of French colonial territories in Southeast Asia.
A grouping of the three Vietnamese regions of Tonkin (north), Annam (centre), and Cochinchina (south) with Cambodia was formed in 1887. Laos was added in 1893 and Kwangchow Wan (Kouang-Tchéou-Wan) in 1898. The capital was moved from Saigon (in Cochinchina) to Hanoi (Tonkin) in 1902 and again to Da Lat (Annam) in 1939. In 1945 it was moved back to Hanoi.
After the Fall of France during World War II, the colony was administered by the Vichy government and was under Japanese occupation until March 1945, when the Japanese overthrew the colonial regime. Beginning in May 1941, the Viet Minh, a communist army led by Hồ Chí Minh, began a revolt against the Japanese. In August 1945 they declared Vietnamese independence and extended the war, known as the First Indochina War, against France.

Travel video about destination Indochina. Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia form the geographical and cultural region of Indochina, a word created at the beginning of the nineteenth century to highlight the influence of China and India on this part of South East Asia. Due to its magnificent natural landscapes and variety of historic sanctuaries Vietnam is one of the most interesting counties in Asia and despite its three million inhabitants the capital city of Hanoi has a relatively calm, old fashioned and provincial atmosphere. South of Hanoi in the Gulf of Tongking the delta region of the Song Hong extends into one of the most beautiful natural miracles in the world, Ha Long Bay in which both small traditional fishing boats and pleasure boats move between its sixteen hundred islands.
